Minimum wage for teenagers
There has been a lot of discussion recently about raising the minimum wage (which I am entirely against)
But a few years ago, many business owners, (fast food and such) were asking for a minimum wage for teenagers. They pointed out the work ethic just wasn't there yet and these kids didn't quite deserve minimum wage. They were asking for a special minimum wage for teens. I think this is a Cracker Jack idea. I know the teen members of this forum will be jumping on me, but that is fine. I think with my head, not my emotions. Take for example the cashiers at the fast food places. How many times have they charged me for a regular coffee rather than a senior coffee. They then have to figure out in their head how much to reimburse me. You would think they were trying to figure out how to send a man to the moon. By being able to pay less to their teenage employees, the employers would be able to hire more teens. Rather than one person trying to do so much, they could have a bigger crew. By having a job, we have less kids on the street letting air out of tires and knocking my mailbox off its stand. I thank you.

Magoo you really want to be waited on by all teens? Hummm seems to me you would rather have them all taking extra classes to brush up on their math so they can make the change fast enough for you....I think that min. wage should be the same for all people...there are allot of teens out there who need the money, whether it be to help out at home, buy their own things, save for collage or whatever...They should not be paid less for doing the same job as an adult (if you are going to pay based on competency that is one thing, cause I have seen allot of so called adults that do a horrible job compared to the teens they work with)....but I wouldnt expect you Magoo to understand that since you still have very old ways of thinking

I am all for putting teens to work. They must learn responsibility. I just do not think they are worth the current minimum wage.
Let them start out at a "teenager" minimum wage. Once they prove themselves, they can receive a raise to the federal minimum wage. And once they show they can do a good job, they can receive raises and more raises. The current tren of fast food places giving raises just because the kid shows up half the time is ludicrous. They must EARN a raise.

Mr. Magoo, when teens work they are taxed at the same level as adults, why should they not be paid the same rate as an adult?

I think teenagers shold definetly be paid the same minumum wage as adults they have a right to earn a decent living too.

I wish they would raise the minimum wage up seeing how most of the parents would like the teen to move out on there own between 18 and 21 years of age . Yet your average job you cant live on or susport your self Much less a family .

Mr. Magoo, I understand where you are "coming" from, but again, I disagree. I do understand that *some* teenagers should earn less than they probably do earn, but I do not believe that teenagers should earn less than an adult. My reasons being, I have seen plenty of adult workers who seem to have forgotten highschool, or even elementary material. Now, don't get me wrong, I believe that EVERYONE (adult or teen) should have tests or whatever is needed to gain a job, but discriminating against teenagers? That is just plain wrong. I am betting on it that there are a lot more teenagers out there than you acknowledge that are smarter than the average adult.
Mr. Magoo, you are always speaking of the "olden days", or "past"...well, according to adults that I have spoken to in my life, they hadn't learned most of anything that we have. A lot of teens are busy studying advanced classes that they are taking. I understand that basic math should be grounds for most ANY job, but if that is the case, then why are there adults still counting with their fingers? I really think your teen stereotype is outdated. By far.

Unfortunately, it's nothing short of stupidity to hire teenagers in at an all-ages facility with a lower minimum wage just because of age. I can understand if a business hires only teenagers and has a set minimum wage income for all workers, but if we're talking about McDonald's, that's ridiculous. An employee should be paid based upon performance, not based on whether or not he or she is a teenager.
