[Road Millage] Prior LP Bond Attorney (now State Treasurer) does NOT agree with no Expiration on Road Millage

At least on four occasions Mayor Brown stated that the road millage Prop R was really a renewal of the road millage ( 5 year cap) that expired in 2005 but because the City of LP Bond Attorney stated that legislation pretty much made any expiration to a road millage illegal. As you recall, Allen Park was putting a road millage with an expiration date on their ballot but then decided to pull it after the uproar from the LP citizens hit the podium about the lack of a sunset (expiration date) of the road tax. Our city attorney allegedly contacted Allen Park's to advise of the recommendations of our bond attorney. (side note: little research that I did indicated that (off the Michigan Legislation site) that a renewal of a road millage in effect within a certain number of years SHALL be called a renewal) Allen Park pulled their road millage ballot until they were able to research further the legislation that the bond attorney was quoted. HOBNOBS - Our Community Unites to Help those facing a tragedy

I have NOT received an ok from the owners of HOBNOBS on this but I thought that just in case they will take us up on the offer, I would like to suggest a few things that we can do as a community to help one of our newest, friendliest businesses. I was thinking that if the owners needed help finding banquent room replacements for thier customers who had booked dates with them we could help find similar rooms. depending on what the owners want to do - like reopen, etc. we could hold a fundraiser and get the City Officials involved; newspapers, etc. to help curb the finanical crunch while they work to reopen IF they don't want to rebuild, maybe the City of LP can donate or sell very cheaply one of the many abandoned buildings we have that would accomodate a smaller HOBNOBS and they could even open up the new one....we could just call the replacement building HOBNOBS2 or something. we could all work together and create a new HOBNOBS2...
