Historical Museum needs volunteers!
Our historical museum needs some younger people willing to help out. Mrs. Lobb needs people that feel comfortable talking to the public. Today she told me that a senior citizen group has requested a tour of the museum. She needs help with the group because it takes more than one person to explain the museum displays to groups. However, when she brought this up to some of the other ladies they refused to help her because they do not feel comfortable talking to groups about the history of Lincoln Park. Now she has volunteer guides that explain the exhibits so it should't be too difficult to memorize that information and get familiar with the displays. If you've got the time during the week to assist her please call her at the Historical Museum! Another thing we discovered today was years and years of old newspapers! There are box loads of Mellus Newspapers in the basement on shelves. Muriel Lobb had forgotten that these newspapers were there. It was something Dan Beggs had been working on when he died. The problem is that there is also many many newspapers that are not in boxes and are sitting on the shelves unprotected and are getting dusty and fading. From what we could see these are from the 1950's to 1980;s. We need someone with Archival knowledge of how to store them as well as carryng out this project. ANYONE? I thought of contacting Wayne State University because they have a good archival program. We also have drawer fulls of laminated Lincoln Park News (Gibbons Publications and Treadwell Publications) as well as The Lincoln Parker (Mellus Newspapers) which are adequately stored in flat drawers. |

Re: Historical Museum needs volunteers!
Leslie, when during the week are these tours to be given? Are they during the day? For a limited time? I might be able to get some time off work or adjust my schedule to help out..

Re: Historical Museum needs volunteers!
The historical museum is open during the week Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 1 pm - 5 pm. This is typically when the tours such as the schools, girl scouts, boy scouts and senior citizens comes to the museum. If it doesn't fit into your schedule Muriel always needs people on a Sunday afternoon, 2 pm - 4 pm, to assist. She is very short staffed. Actually if you want to help out for this specific tour, call Muriel, and ask her when this senior group plans on coming. |
