Re: Tonight's DDA meeting
I think they were doing a head count for this. I saw the invitation that was sent out to the commissions, and it asked that if you planned on coming to give the Community Improvement commission a call so they could have enough refreshments... If you're not on a commission or you don't call ahead, then you should probably bring your own drink or a snack if you feel hungry. Just a suggestion.

Re: Tonight's DDA meeting
I suggest our commissioners stick to Fort Street and forget about Visger. You couldn't pay me enough to drive down Visger. You couldn't have paid me enough to drive down Visger 40 years ago let alone nowadays.

Re: Tonight's DDA meeting
I talked to Val Wynns and we do not have to RSVP. It is the Fort Street portion that pertains to Lincoln Park for our commissioners not the Visger portion. |

Re: Tonight's DDA meeting
Tonights meeting was very good! IheartLP you would of loved it. The council chambers was packed. Abe Kadushin, Ann Arbor architect, and a professor I had for a grad level community planning class at Eastern Michigan four years ago was there. Jim Moran has recruited him to work on this project. I will post more info in the next few days!! |

Re: Tonight's DDA meeting
That's ok tho. I've heard some things thru the grapevine about it. Val Wyn sounds really excited! I need to write her to let her know I will help out with the art place. If they need help cleaning up, moving things, whatever they need. This idea is right in line with Cool Cities. I know that McKenna told you we don't qualify, but I think we still do under option number 4. We missed the deadline to submit our intent for applying for the grants this year, but I expect they will do another round of cool cities for next year. This is RIGHT in line with that philosophy. Do you know if they are getting any assistance from the Feds with thier ideas? I should just call them and talk to them myself to get the skinny on thier plans. Thanks leslie! (Can you tell I'm excited???) |

Re: Tonight's DDA meeting
Abe Kadushin feels we qualify for Cool Cities. However, I talked to Jim Moran about it last night. Jim says yes we qualify but it would of been an uphill battle to win the grant. Plus, the state wants the cities to match which this isn't a good time for the city to match money. Plus, he said many of our cities are not happy with Cool Cities. Two cities who were awarded dropped out - Traverse City and Grand Rapids. Best bet is to get more details from Jim. However, Jim did say that McKenna should of never told us that we DIDN'T qualify - incorrect information. And Jim Moran agrees with me that our DDA needs to keep the Cool Cities discussion rolling. At one meeting the topic was 'how to we get to be more artsy-fartsy?' but it was dropped after Mr. Hatley said that McKenna said that we do not qualify. Right now they are looking for all the ideas that they can get from us! They have something like four months to put something together! Abe Kadushin is a real good person to talk to! I can email you his email address. |
