After 2-city race with cops, man still on the run

Still running is a suspect involved in a chase with Lincoln Park police March 29.

The suspect, described as a black male with braided hair who is 5-foot-10, weighs 210 pounds and was wearing a black coat and blue jeans, led police on a chase that started in Lincoln Park and ended in Detroit.

Officers running radar on I-75 facing northbound saw a green, 1996 four-door Chevy Sport Wagon traveling in the far-left lane at 88 m.p.h. at 1:57 a.m. Officers followed the vehicle, using their flashing lights to signal for the man to pull over.

The driver put his signal on to imply he was going to pull over, but then sped up, and the race was on.

Officers chased the suspect along I-75 north until the suspect exited at Schaefer doing 95 m.p.h.

The chase continued down Fort Street and into residential side streets. It ended as the suspect pulled into a driveway in the 2600 block of Basset Street in Detroit and fled on foot toward Ethel Street.

Lincoln Park police -- assisted by Ecorse and Detroit police -- were unable to catch the suspect.

Lincoln Park police did search the vehicle -- which was stolen -- and found a .32-caliber, blue-steel revolver inside. The gun was not registered.

Police are still searching for the suspect.
