Pit Bulls are dangerous, BAN THEM
I started a thread the other night about a local community who is trying to pass a resolution to ban Pit Bulls. I asked if LP had such an Ordinance. If they do not, they should pass one as soon as possible. I have been to many Pit Bull fights and Co ck fights and I can tell you they are not a pretty sight. One time I saw a Pit Bull get loose during one of these events. The Pit Bull attacked its owner and a spectator. I have seen first hand what these animals are capable of doing. They are a BAD breed and should be banned. Again I say, Lincoln Park needs to pass an ordinance banning these animals if they have not already done so. Ms Lyson, I am sure you will end up deleting this thead due to "Server Problems", but I can assure you that I will repost this subject time and time again.

Well, according to the statistics available Mr Magoo, Rottweilers are more dangerous than Pit Bulls. Be that as it may, how many Pit Bulls in Lincoln Park have attacked someone? How many Rottweilers? How many Labs? It is the owners of dogs who are responsible Mr Magoo. Banning certain breeds will not change that. Please read the following article with an open mind:

Pure ignorance fuels this debate. The breed is not the problem, it's the irresponsible and ignorant owners that are the problem. Bull terriers are no better or worse than any other breed. Rototillers, German Shepherds, and Dobermans can mame or kill just as effectively as a bull terrier. Will they be next? A 45 caliber can do more damage than a 22 caliber. Do we ban 45 calibers now. With guns or dogs the problem is the same. And so is the solution. Promote and/or reward responsible owners or ownership. Discourage and/or penalize irresponsible owners. In my career, I have worked with many breeds of dogs, including bull terriers. As with humans, dogs are most often a product of their environment. Raised to kill, they will kill. Do we ban a breed because some idiots choose to raise a few to kill? That's ludicrous. |

I have no problem banning Dobermans and Rottweilers as well as Pit Bulls. Primo, have you ever been to a Pit Bull fight or a Co ck fight?? I very much doubt it. If you had, you would understand why we must take action, we must be PROACTIVE. |

Typical knee-jerk reaction. Just because you witness some people who abused animals, the animals are to be banned? Has anyone ever used a knife illegally Mr Magoo? How about a gun? How about a car? According to the article I posted, between 1991 and 1998, there were approximately 106 people in the United States who lost their lives due to dog attacks. How many people have been killed by automobiles? Motorcycles? Knives? Guns? Drugs? There is already numerous drugs that are banned, yet people abuse them every day. There is already heavy restrictions and licensing for handguns (the firearm most used in firearm fatalities), yet people abuse them too - illegally. Banning a specific breed does nothing to prevent people from illegally raising a dog to fight, all it does is prevent law-abiding citizens from being free to have a dog of their choosing. Land of the free, Mr Magoo. Land of the free . . . indeed? |

Magoo, did you really see a dog fight????? HHHMMMM I ask this because if you had you would know that one of the traights of an American Bull Terrier is they tend not to be agressive towards people, even after being trained to fight, so the trainers when trying to break up there dogs, are less likely to be bitten, the 2 trainers are almost always in the pit with the dogs, of course you already knew this didn't you??? Try to break up a couple of labs that are going at it and you will probably getting some stitches. RubberArm the Rotweiler statistic is on the up side because over the last decade more people including bad people have been leaning towards Rotts because of the bad rep of an American Bull, ordinances against Bulls and what not. Rotts are very family possesive, which can be a problem, once they are attached to a familly they can be big babies towards the kids and familly, but very protective and agressive towards anyone else. My response to this thread prior to the server crash was that I think the Human "Breed" is far worse than any dog breed, even combined!! Why don't we just push the button now and save future generations? (Of corse it is only a sarchastic remark meant to demonstrate how outlandish it is to irradicate an entire breed because some of them *may* be capable of hurting someone)

Which leads to the question: If you ban Pit Bulls because they are the "deadliest" and people start getting Rotts and then Rotts become the "deadliest" and people start getting Dobermans and then Dobermans become the "deadliest" ad infinitum, where does it stop? It just does not make sense to ban specific breeds. It is already illegal to abuse a dog, or allow them to roam free in the city, and the owner is already responsible and liable if the dog injures anyone, regardless of breed. |

pit bull is such a broad description, what exactly is a "pit bull" theres the slope nosed english pit bull, the american staffordshire terrier, and any number of bull terrier mixes. mom and dad have a boston bull many people think this lovable dog is a pitt bull, my freind has a mixed mut part french bull part jack russell. pit bull? the house around the corner from me has what is commonly referred to as a pit bull, i would hate to see them lose this gentle mutt, you have a better chance of being attacked by my chihuahua. i just couldnt support this, just demand that people be responsable pet owners, no matter what the breed. |
