NASA...since when do they deal in CHANCE:
Quote:
I'm sure they know what they're doing...but come on now! Didn't a similar crack in the fuel tank foam cause Space Shuttle Columbia to wreck? I know it's a small crack...but this is NASA we're talking about! As anal as they are about every mundane detail...they are saying things like it "probably" won't hit the vehicle and that it doesn't pose a "serious" problem. What happened to the days when NASA would make sure that it "wouldn't" hit the vehicle and that it "doesn't" pose any problem? Heck...they didn't even pony up the money to fly the manufactures out to physically inspect the crack. They simply sent images of it to the tank manufacturer! What the heck is going on with NASA?! Seriously...a freaking peice of debris from the outer foam insulation on a fuel tank is what brought Columbia down! And they are really going to let this thing launch without repairing a similar problem?!

Yeah, it seems like the higher up the crack is, the better the odds that it would hit any particular part of the shuttle.

The problem with NASA is the young people have no vision. My generation put a man on the moon and brought them home safely. And they did this in nine years starting from scratch. The present generation can't even get this Shuttle thing to orbit the Earth safely. SHAMEFUL

For the love of Allah, Mr. Magoo. Put a sock in it already. Do you really think there are a bunch of 30-year olds running NASA? Most of the higher-ups are probably closer to your age than they are mine or my parents. Nonetheless..."your generation" put a man on the moon? Well "my generation" built two space stations. Beat that! |

I wonder how many space miles have been travelled with the shuttle as compared to the moon missions? Anyhow, I agree with Veritas, they should repair the crack. |

Apples and oranges my friend. Who puts more miles on their car. The person who drove to California and back four times or the person who spent two decades riding around the block? What was more challenging? Driving to California or riding around the block? |

I'll keep my crack shut on this one? Not even worth it.
