Are Girl Sports making girls violent?
I read more and more about girls being violent. There was an article in today's paper about two teenage sisters getting into a "fist fight" Can you imagine? Two girls in a fist fight?? More and more females are going to prison for violent crimes. In my day that was unheard of. I have been giving a lot of thought to this problem and have come to the conclusion it is a result of all these girl sports programs. In the 1970s Congress passed Title 9 which requires schools to have girls sports programs. Ever since these programs were introduced, girls have become more and more violent. It was at this same time the courts allowed girls to play Little League Baseball. Unheard of in my day, completely unheard of. Girls played house and boys played sports. You would occasionally get a "tom boy" who wanted to play sports, but we knew what road they were heading down. I think it is the untapping of Testosterone that at one time had been dormant in girls that has led to this violent behavior. When girls play sports, they release levels of testosterone which their female bodies are unable to handle. I strongly believe the schools should immediately end all girls sports programs. Perhaps tennis and maybe even a very regulated basketball team for those "tom boys" I talked about, but any contact sports should be banned. The wife thinks I am completely off my rocker on this, but I have studied the problem and have come to this conclusion. The problem of violence among girls is becoming an epidemic which we must put an end to. Ban Girl Sports. Now!!

This is so ignorant, I feel my I.Q. going down just reading it. Yes, girls have a little testosterone in their physiological make-up--HOWEVER, sports would cause endorphins ("feel-good" hormones) to become more active. Being physically active does not promote more testosterone in females. x.x Chemical imbalances do occur, but diet and medications seems more likely to influence that. You state that since the 1970's, girls have become more and more violent and have been pushed into jail. Are you aware that this is a fictitious statement--on several grounds? There are a lot of influencing factors that could lead to female violence--before and during the 70's, segregation ended, the divorce rate started increasing, and prayer in public school ended. In the past half-century, a lot of changes have been made in society--and saying that ONLY because of sports we have this current problem is nothing short of stupidity. To put it simply--you don't know what you're talking about, Magoo. If you have such conclusive evidence, where is it? Where are the statistics? Have you interviewed girls and asked them what drives them to violence? I'm sure NONE of them would say that sports led them to violence. |

Re: Are Girl Sports making girls violent?
I am saying that Girl Sports is ONE of the reasons Girls are becoming more violent. There are certainly other factors, but this is one situation we can eliminate immediately. Stop girl sports and you end the releasing of testosterone. Girls were not violent in my day. They did not knock people down at firework events and start kicking them like we saw at Hart Plaza a few years ago. Girls did not form gangs. They may have been silly enough to have boyfriends in gangs, but they certainly were not in gangs. Take a long hard look. Since the 1970s girl violence has increased significanly. It went from almost nothing to a major issue. Can we truthfully say Title Nine had nothing to do with it? Can we truthfully say the "feminist" movement had nothing to do with it. We must explain it somehow. I say it is the proliferation of girl sports and the femi-nazi movement that has caused this problem. Girls and girls. When they try to become boys we have a very big problem. Testosterone was meant for boys. The male body is able to handle testosterone, not the female body. I thank you. |

Re: Are Girl Sports making girls violent?
Women don't spontaneously get testosterone increases in their body, as I stated before. Naturally, women have a slight amount. Chemical imbalances do not occur as a result of sports, nor do they result as a part of the feminist movement. Could girls be becoming more violent because of sports? Maybe a little bit. But what about boys? It's all right for boys to be violent just because they were back in your day? Here's a better suggestion: if we want to cut back on violence, let's just cut out the sports programs entirely, save for city-funded programs. An accomplished athlete has never come out of Lincoln Park High School, but the arts department is churning out music majors and vocalists, including Laura Rodriguez (she often sang the National Anthem at football games the past few years), who, last time I checked, was going to school in New York to pursue singing. As far as your belief that girls were never violent back in your day, I'm sure they were. However, the media was restricted and censored; bad news tended to get swept up and disposed of. A lot probably happened right under your nose. |

Re: Are Girl Sports making girls violent?
The media was not censored in my day. If two girls got into a fist fight it not only would have made the newspaper, it would have made the front page. Take a look at crime statistics for the past 50 years and tell me girls are not becoming more violent. Talk to a older police officer and he will tell you that girls are certainly becoming more and more violent all the time. I tell you these girl sports are at the root of it. |
