The late start in repaving the roads in LP may spell disaster
The council finally, FINALLY approved some of the roads to be repaved this year. Will the late start mean the roads will be torn up, but not repaved until spring of 2006? Does anyone remember the disaster of the late 1970s with the replacement of water mains? The contractor got a late start. The contractor tore up the streets designated to have the mains replaced. The problem? The contractor got paid in increments. He knew he could not do the entire job before winter hit. So he tore up the streets and got his first payment. Then he walked away until the following spring. As Mr Murphy, he should remember. He was on the council at the time. To the residents living on those streets it was a nightmare. Bad enough to put up with this type of inconvenience in the summer. You can imagine the problems it causes to have your street tore up in the winter (with no work being done). You can imagine the MUD you have to put up with in the spring. I think any resident with children in the house had to replace their carpeting. Most people's carpeting was completely ruined. I hope our council will be watching the contractor very very closely this year. I hope they ensure that any roads torn up this year are repaved this year.

How is the city supposed to plow snow on a road that isn't there? I plow snow with my Excursion and hate it when I have to plow gravel drives.

Hopefully any roads torn up this year will be repaved before snow falls. I also remember that screw up. In think it was around 1979. I was at a council meeting when it was full of residents complaining. That was before cable.

I hope they start with Markese Between Riopelle and Dix, that steel plate they put at the end of my drive way was suposed to be a temporary fix. They have been saying it is on the list since April.

I noticed a lot of saw-horses on Cleophus. It appeared as if they would be started there soon. |

I still don't understand why Fort Street had to be torn up. Try driving down the 1400 block of Capitol and down--if that doesn't give you a good head-shakin', I don't know what will. I've seen some residential streets that were a lot worse than Fort Street will EVER be (Riverdrive is another very bouncy one). Don't get me wrong, if the goal is to fix up Lincoln Park, that's great. I just think the street priorities were a little mixed up. |

Unfortunately, the resurfacing of Fort St. is being paid from the left pocket, and the repairs of the side streets is being paid from the right pocket. The question I'd like to ask is why does it take so long to finish the Fort St. resurfacing project. |

Fort Street is being paid for by the state I believe, either that or the county. We don't have any say in it. |
