I doubt the Millage has a chance
With a low turnout expected for the General Election and many of those being seniors, I say the Millage won't pass. We need to repair roads desparately. But it is the wrong year, wrong voters. Low voter turnout means no Millage Renewal.

Wouldn't that be the job of council to get the word out?

Re: I doubt the Millage has a chance
Like they did when they put the treasurer/assessor question on the ballot? They approve the wording and then magically think people will support it. They need to do some sort of an education campaign to let people know the pros and cons of another millage. |

Re: I doubt the Millage has a chance
If we do not vote in the Millage, it will seal the fait of Lincoln Park. No one wants to vote to increase taxes, but sometimes you have to do what is right. On the other hand, I have talked to quite a few of my senior friends. Not one of them plan on voting for it. I see this proposal being defeated as badly as the Treasurer/Assessor proposal was last year. I agree Wolverine, most of our elected official are way out of step with the residents of LP. They do not have a finger on the pulse of this city. Mr Kandes puts everyone at arms length. I think he feels by merely endorsing a yes vote that everyone will follow suit. I see this proposal losing by 70% of the vote.

Re: I doubt the Millage has a chance
What happens when funds are needed (say, for the roads)...but the money cannot be raised? Do the roads simply degrade to nothing? Or does the county or state step in to offer assistance?

Re: I doubt the Millage has a chance
So conceivably, a cities roads can deteriorate to absolutely nothing...even to the point where they pose a danger to non-community motorists? |

Schools and city government have absolutely NOTHING to do with each other. They are two separate entities. Don't hold one accountable for the other's failures. |

Re: I doubt the Millage has a chance
They're both jacked up though, Wolverine. The whole sinking fund issue smelled of poor planning, to me. The way they packaged and sold the millage was a farce, too. They weren't exactly forthcoming in the additional finance charges the city will be paying. I did the math, and if memory serves...it was somewhere near $17 or $20 million over the life of the bonds. Search through the archives...I posted my findings on there. I went to a School Board meeting to address them with my concerns...but of course they stonewalled me. Randall Kite approached me after the meeting and promised to furnish me with more information...he never did, despite several calls I placed to his office to follow up. Nonetheless, the measure was approved by the taxpayers. |

Using the term "brownstain" when referring to our mayor Steve Brown is disrepectful. : This person needs to have their hand slapped. |

Re: I doubt the Millage has a chance
If the State won't continue Revenue Sharing our leaders and the leaders of all the effected communities should demand a eeduction in State Income Tax . The Individual communities could approve a half of one percent income tax. for critical projects. cities like Lincoln Park would benefit because of the large amount of rental properties. The burden needs to be lifted from property owners. Tax every income . Stop taking it out ofthe pockets of low income residence. Two family households earning $60.000 who can better afford the tax will pay and recieve a break on their syaye Tax. Young and older residents on fixed income would not be paying what they don"t have . Those below the poverty level or young families with low income and dependents would recieve exemptions. .More people would provide the funds cities like Ecorse ,Wyandotte . Melvindale ,Flint, Warren need to maintain their infrastructure. The State would have to reduce their Tax First. Not cut Revenue sharing and then hand out a 10% increase to some State employees We all were taken by the State . A unite effort would send them a message . We want our noney back for basic improvements. Or kiss your job goodbye.

I don't like Brown either. And I agree with you on most things you say about him and EZ. My point is that speaking disprectfully of them on this public website, when thousands view this website daily, gives a crappy impression of LP residents. |
