Quantum Physics:
I watched a documentary on some of the ideals behind quantum physics earlier, and it truly fascinated me how deeply this science extends. For several years, I've had all sorts of theories of my own about how we percieve the world around us. I had no idea that there is an actual science behind some of my hypothesis'! When most people think of quantum physics, they think of things like "time travel" or "teleportation". That's all I thought quantum physics encompassed...until I watched this program. I'm amazed at how far it actually extends! Watching the program, I can definately see a parallel between certain religious organizations...like Scientology and Buddism. These religions share an uncanny resemblence to some of the sciences behind quantum physics. Basically, the program suggested that the world, as we see it, may not be reality. Our eyes do not "see"...they simply reiterate information to our brain to analyze. What is in our mind is reality. Our brain is the center behind all 5 of our senses...so if the brain can find a way to manipulate these 5 senses so that our body reacts to them...what's to say that that's not real? If you think about it, nothing is really tangible. Sure, you can say that a rock exists because you can touch it. You can throw it through a window, causing a reaction. But what is that rock comprised of? It's comprised of an infinite number of molecules...nuetrons, protons, and electrons...spinning around eachother in such rapid motions that it superficially creates a solid barrier. Each of those molecules are dependent on eachother to react...just like our eyes are dependent on our brain to interpret what we see. Quantum theory suggests that each individual is capable of controlling their own world around them...able to manipulate their surroundings and their futures just by recognizing that your mind is able to interpret things differently than they appear. A study was done using water. Several bottles of water were taken from the same source (a water source in Japan). Each bottle was labled with a different word or phrase...like "I love you", "I hate you", "Peaceful", etc, etc. Then people were told to read the phrases and to think about how it made them feel. When the water molecules were examined under a high powered microscope, they actually looked different. The study suggests that the mere thought of something is able to change how someone feels...and that their feelings are able to restructure or reinterpret things around them...based on how we perceive them. The theory goes on to suggest that considering our bodies are comprised of 98% water, through positive thinking and clear thought, we should be able to control our body to produce more "positive" cells...thereby making us healthier and more productive. It also goes on to explain the complexities of the brain...the nuerons and synapses, more specifically. It shows that the brain can be taught to make you feel a certain way based on historical events. Pyshchologists might call it "association". Quantum theory suggests that the mind can be taught to produce more positive synapsis...and that it can be trained to associate things differently than normal. And it suggests that if your mind can associate enough nueron bundles...that it could conceivably be able to influence how your mind percieves things...thereby creating an alternate form of "reality". It's a very difficult concept to wrap your mind around...but if you can truly come to understand the theory...it's extremely fascinating. Most people hear "More than one reality exists...and it's unique to everyone", and they think "Wow, you're nuts". But if you truly understand the theory...it's much easier to comprehend the idea. Anyway...I was just wondering if anyone else knows anything about quantum physics or quantum theory. I've done a horrible job trying to explain the basis of this science...so anyone not familiar with the concept will probably read it and think I'm loony or something. I wish I could explain it better...but it's far more than could ever be written here.

Re: Quantum Physics:
Quantum Physics is very hard to grasp, it goes way beyond thre demensional thinking, in fact it really goes into multi-dementional thinking, and perseption of said thinking. The phrase nothing unreal exist is a very brief Quantum Physics statement, theirfore if it exist it always has, just maybe not in our reality!!! Anyways if you think you have a small grip on Quantum physics try String Theory on for size it is sure to give you a head ache!!! Quantum Physics loses me when they start talking about folding space and Atomic clouds and what not..... Rocky |

Re: Quantum Physics:
According to what I have studied; it was always assumed that due to quantum foam distortion, that if time travel were physically possible, you would only be able to make a few trips before you weren't put together again well enough, and you died. Thats if you were together enough before the first trip.

Or to get a better grasp of it, I recommend reading "A Wrinkle In Time" by Madeleine L'Engle. You can pick it up for under $10 at most bookstores (the book was written in 1963, so it's pretty old). It's real easy to read. I actually did a book report on it in 6th or 7th grade. It's got a story to it...one that you may or may not be interested in because it's geared towards children (it won a Newbery Medal, if that means anything to you). But the whole concept of the story hinges on quantum theory, and how wrinkles in space can be used to travel through time. I actually want to beef up my book collection...so maybe I'll pick it up someday and let you borrow it if you're interested. Or I'm sure the LP public library has it. Let me know! |

I believe the idea that he (the main character, I don't know his name) could take on the persona of a historical figure was based on the quantum theory that you can control reality by altering perception. I didn't realize that the perception/reality portion of it was based on quantum theory until I watched that documentary today. Like I said...it's amazing how deep quantum theory goes! |

Re: Quantum Physics:
Einstein's Theory of Relativity tells us that time is an illusion. And we all know that space and time create/shape each other. One cannot exist without the other; hence space-time. Space-time is our four-dimensional universe. It is an illusion. All of it. Can you prove you exist? You cannot. The first postulate of science (which they do not teach anymore) is that the universe is real. Science must take on faith that the universe exists in the first place. All other science is rooted in this assumption. Here is a scientific quandry: If you know the location of an electron, you cannot know its speed. If you know its speed, you cannot know its location. (editted to add this sidenote: ever read Life, The Universe, and Everything by Douglas Adams - part of The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy? Quite humorous. Anyhow, one civilization builds a computer to solve the riddle of life, the universe and everything. The computer says, OK, but it will take a millions years to figure out. The beings say, OK, do it. A million years go by, generations after generations have lived and died and they have continuously trained people to watch this computer and wait for an answer. Finally, the computer says, OK, I have the answer. So all the beings gather around. They ask the computer, "do you have the answer." The computer says, "yes, but you're not going to like it." The people say, "c'mon already." The computer says, "alright. The answer to life, the universe and everything is 42." All the people look around at each other amazed. Then it begins to dawn on them: they do not know what the question was. So they ask they computer, "what was the question." To which the computer says, "I have started working on it and I'll have an answer in about a million years.") Also, on the subatomic level, every particle has a "probability cloud." What this means is that the location of any particular particle, such as an electron, may be here or there. IOW, its location is stated as a probability. There is a very high probability that the electron is near the nucleus and as you get further from the nuleus, the probability is reduced. However, if you go to the very edge of the universe, there is still a slight probability that the electron is there. Therefore, all these particles can at anytime theoretically be anywhere in the universe; it is all a matter of probabilities. And religeons have been saying that all this is not real for centuries, nay, millenia. Christianity, Buddhism, Toaism, Judaism, Islam, etc. Now, let me ask you this: If this universe is not real, and some kind of "heaven" exists, does it exist "outside" this unreal universe, or is it within, throughout and around this unreal universe (consider how there may be up to 23 dimensions wrapped up within our universe), or is "heaven" strickly above, beyond and outside this unreal universe?

RubberArm do you think that Quantum physics could get me out of a speeding ticket I got. I was thinking that since the existance of the universe is not a certanty (sp) but more a faith thing that means the the unverse may or may not exist?? Right, therefore all that is in it may or may not exist or it may exist in one particular sense of perception. BUT!!! what if my perception is different then that of those that issued me the ticket, you cannot prove how fast I was going because its all relative to your definition of perception... What do you think??? Think the Judge will buy it??? Rocky |

This would also explain how people with multiple personalities are able to change their eye color and other attributes when they switch between personalities. It is all a product of our minds? Some serious food for thought here!

Oh yeah, from The Matrix: "Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead ... only try to realize the truth." "What truth?" "There is no spoon." "There is no spoon?" "Then you'll see that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself." |

Re: Quantum Physics:
I've heard that when the Spaniards came to the Carribean, that the Native Americans could not see the ships in the water. The reason is that they had absolutely no knowledge or idea that such a thing could possibly exist, therefore their minds chose to ignore it. Their eyes picked up on the ripples in the water, but could not figure out what was making it happen. A witch doctor (or the equivelant of one) spent several days staring at the horizon trying to figure out what was making the water ripple...and then one day his mind "learned" to see the ships. After he saw them, he went around to the local people and explained to them what was going on. Because he was a trusted individual in the tribe, their mind accepted what he had to say, and they too were able to see the ships. I don't find this hard to believe. We've all seen those brain teasers where your mind can only see one thing...but if someone points out to you the other image, suddenly your mind is able to acknowledge that the picture is completely different. There are also theories of some people being able to make themselves "invisible" to the naked eye. There was even an ex-files episode about it. I believe in the possibility...I believe they use some of the same techniques that expert illusionists use. Seeing truly is believing. If you see it, you believe it. If you don't see it, you don't believe it's there. I believe the mind can be taught to see things that it ordinarily chooses to ignore. And if one can master this concept, then they should also be able to master the concept of manipulating their perception to others. Has anyone ever heard of a guy naked Chris Angel? He has a television show called "Mind Freak". If you've ever seen this guy perform some illusions, you will understand why he is called the Mind Freak. Much of what he does is just so unexplainable...it's unreal. David Copperfield, to some degree, has many of the same talents. I truly believe that these illusionists have mastered the art of perception...to the point where they can literally influence those around them to believe they are seeing something. When millions of people see the same thing...that, my friends, is reality. If we could train our minds to see the things that our mind typically chooses to ignore, then I'm sure many of their stunts and tricks would lose their luster. It's completely natural for our minds to ignore things that it cannot understand. Our brains process billions of peices of data every second...but it only consciously recognizes a few million. What happens to the rest? It is ignored. Our eyes are like a camera. Our mind is like the film. Everything the camera picks up is recorded onto the film...and the film can be manipulated to draw more attention to more things than others. As Mr. Myers pointed out, people with multiple personalities can change their eye color. How else can you explain this phenomina? It's simple: Quantum Theory. They believe so thoroughly that they are another person, that they actually become another person...even physical traits can change. The mind is a truly powerful thing...more powerful than any human can ever fully comprehend. I have entertained previous notions that multiple dimensions may exist...but I entertain that notion even more so after understanding some more of these theories. For all we know, we are each in our own universe...the creator of our own destiny. Every person we interact with could be a character in our universe...so we can literally manipulate anything and everything in our world in any way that we wish...if only we could fathom the ability to do so. We are the center of our own universe...and there is a different universe for every person on the planet. If I am able to manipulate my mind to believe that I am a movie star and married to a hot supermodel...and all 5 of my senses believe this...then it becomes my reality. To someone else, I may be the janitor who cleans their bathroom at work...but if all 5 of their senses believe this...then it becomes their reality. What's to say either of our realities are wrong? Nothing...except for your own mind. Your mind is like a muscle...it can be worked out and trained. For example, if you wack your thumb with a hammer, your mind is wired to make you feel pain. But you can actually teach your mind not to feel that. It takes a ton of practice (and a lot of pain), but you can rewire the synapses and nueron bundles in your mind to block out certain receptors...or to form completely new ones. Every time I hurt myself, I focuse on the pain and try to block it out. Even as a child...people would always say "don't think about it" when I was in pain. No way...I want to think about it. I try to visualize the source of the pain and mentally isolate it. I try to teach myself that pain doesn't really hurt...it only hurts because my mind says it does. Martial arts experts, I'm sure, have an excellent grasp of this concept. When I studied Karate (Shotokan), I learned of three masters: Gichin, Gigo, and Funakoshi. Each one was able to fight blindfolded. How amazing is that? To rob yourself of your eyes and still be able to defend yourself against attack? If you choose not to believe this is true (your perception), then I'm sure you've seen artists who can break bricks with their foreheads. Explain how that is done, if you can. It's done through conditioning...of not only the body...but of the mind. You literally have to believe you can do it...otherwise you will seriously harm yourself. And believing you can do it is only half the battle. I believe there is much to be learned from the folks in the East. I believe they have spent a good many years fine-tuning the art of understanding the 4th dimension...and gaining a solid grasp on their abilities to alter their perception of the world. This stuff is truly fascinating. |

Re: Quantum Physics:
My sister has been working this type of theory on me for awhile. She says the world is made up of energy. Collectively, anything is possible. She says the world we see is the world we ourselves "perceive". When she gets to the point that what I see is not real, she loses me. The energy part, I believe. If, collectively, we stand united as an energy, how could we lose? If we could just stand united, what would the world be like???

What is a mountain made out of? Some might say it's made of stone. Others would say its comprised of countless particles of energy that move around in a centrifugal force that comprise atoms...that in turn collectively comprise a rock...that in turn collectively comprise a mountain. In its most basic form, a montain is made up of particles of energy. If one can teach their mind to percieve this energy differently, they can percieve it in another dimension...a dimension that they control. I believe this is how master illusionists perform their tricks. Notice that they prefer to be called "illusionists" and not "magicians"? There is nothing magical about it...it is science. The science of illusion and perception. How does David Copperfield make an entire 747 dissapear in front of hundreds of people? How does Chris Angel swallow a quarter, then allow it to be seen traveling under his skin...then cutting his arm open to pull the SAME quarter out? They manipulate perception...which alters reality. |

I once knew a guy who lived by shoplifting. He was a master at it. He would walk out of stores with buggies full of goods. How did he do it? He looked like he belonged there; he exuded confidence that he knew what he was doing, had a purpose in doing it, and was supposed to be doing it. You would not believe how many security cameras and/or guards he just walked right past, sometimes even saying hello as he went, with buggies full of stuff. Of course he eventually got involved with heavy drug use and his skills faded and he eventually got caught multiple times. Last I heard he was in prison. But the point being, many, many times he blended into the environment in such a way that he was practically invisible. Granted, people could see him as he projected himself, but they did not see him for what he was. |

I agree with some of what you say but you have to be carefull in not lumping everything into the pot, false perseption is deception, ie. breaking bricks with your bare hands I can teach you that in 5 minutes I could have you breaking multiple bricks in 1/2 hour, I could teach you how to cut a watermelon off of someones chest with a razor sharp sword in about an hour, or lay on a bed of nails while I break a brick off of your chest, this is not a matter of someones perception of what they can or cannot do it is their deception of getting you to beleave that they can do the impossible. The samething is true of magicians, and one might even say politicians!!! I don't quite buy the hole if you beleave it will happen it can and will, other wise the first man would have not known how to die so why would he??? or did he?? If noone taught him that you get old and die or that if you walk off that cliff you die, they why or how did he die when he did such things?? Rocky |
