For you Bellgreenkid
I understand this will probablly not sink into for you but who knows sometimes people do eventually open their eyes. To those in other countries, and those of you who never studied Political Science in school, this is how the United States of America functions. This is perhaps a good time for a lesson in Political Science. Many people, both inside and outside the USA, do not understand how the Government of the United States functions. At a time when Iraq is debating the concept of Federalism, the crisis in the US State of Louisiana and the City of New Orleans is a perfect example of a federal government structure at work. Indeed, the USA has a huge federal government. But that level of government deals with issues concerning the whole country. The 50 individual states and the cities within them have a huge amount of independence from the government at the federal level. In New Orleans, it was the responsibility of the local city government with the help of the State of Louisiana to protect its citizens. They failed miserably. No President, G.W. Bush or other, has the right to interfere at the city or state level. Any plans to move people out of New Orleans were the responsibility of the city officials, with the help of the state government. Until and unless they ask for help, the Federal officials can not, and will not, interfere. In the neighboring states of Alabama and Mississippi, following the disaster of the hurricane, their state governors were true leaders and took control quickly. Their people began receiving aid as soon as the roads were cleared to allow the trucks to move. The National Guard ( as it is refered to ) is actually under the direct command of the state governor. When they are "federalized" they can be used by the President. The simple facts are that the governors of Alabama and Mississippi acted, while the governor of Louisiana did nothing but complain. She had 6,500 National Guard and 1,000 State Police answerable directly to her. She failed to use them. She failed to call for federal help. Essentially, even the President of the United States cannot interfere in a state unless invited. She failed to extend that invitation. It will be a while before we know the reasons for that failure. Sheer incompetence on the part of the local and state political leaders is high on the list. While their citizens were literally starving inside the flooded city of New Orleans, they did absolutely nothing to help. Meanwhile, as invited, Federal help was flowing into Alabama and Mississippi. Louisiana officials were frozen in,inaction. Active duty US soldiers, under the direct command of the President were preparing to assist. To enter before they were invited, would have been the same as an invasion. Even the President was powerless to assist until invited. On Friday, Sept 2nd the world saw what could have happened earlier. Had the government officials in Louisiana acted in the way a government is expected to function, the Federal help that flowed into New Orleans on that day could have been there earlier. I would speculate that what happened behind closed doors is that when President Bush flew into Louisiana, he essentially told GOV Blanco and Mayor Nagin that enough was enough, that their inaction was intolerable, that he was about to "invade" Louisiana with Federal forces and do what they had not done in the prior days. On his order, troops and police took control of the city of New Orleans. On his order, an eight-mile long convoy of relief supplies entered the city. On his order, a vast fleet of helicopters began to rescue the citizens of New Orleans who had been abandoned by their local elected officials. No, the Federal government of the United States and the Bush Administration bears no blame what so ever in this tragedy. Any blame falls solely on the local and state government. New Orleans' Mayor Nagin had no plan to help his citizens in the event that the levee broke. Louisiana Governor Blanco utterly failed in her duty to protect her citizens and to help New Orleans. You won't see this on the anti-Bush media. The BBC and CNN will continue to lie to the world and lay the blame on Bush. That's their pattern with every story. In other media outlets, the truth is slowly leaking out. The other small piece of this tragedy is that the governor of Louisiana and the mayor of New Orleans belong to the Democrat Party (the opposition to Bush's Republican Party). Across America, as in New Orleans, Democrat administrations pretend to be the "friend of the needy". That's how they get elected. The simple fact that they are often inept and unheeding of their citizens seems to go unnoticed. This week the world saw a Democrat administration in full exposure of its corruption and incompetence. It was rescued by the Republican-run Federal authorities. Hopefully, the voters are taking notes. Come on Bellgreenkid, Sandy, amd others lets here your spin!!! Lets here how GWB should have tossed the constutution out the window, lets here how it all Bush's Fault. If it truely was Bush's fault then all things on the loacal level must be his fault, its not our City's fault a Stip Club might be moving into the North End its Bush's fault, its not our City's fault our local roads arn't getting fixed its the Bush adminisrtations fault. I suggest learning a little bit about how out Government works, why we have certain checks and balances, why the President can't just do as he please when he pleases with our Military, they have a name for leaders that have that power "DICTATOR" Here endith the Lesson, that is sure to fall on deaf ears. Yep RubberArm I have noticed that too, probablly because he or she can't debate the retoric they spew forth, they can only cut and paste what te find on some Libral Web Site, Not to say that all Democrat & Libral web Sites are bad their are some very good ones out there, it just seems in the past 5 years or so they are full of hatred and half truths. Re: For you Bellgreenkid
BellGreenKid is famous on these sorts of blogs and sites. He joins and posts his dissertations, hoping people will read them. There's nothing wrong with that, mind you. I just thought you'd like to know that he does the same thing on many other sites I've visited over the years as well. It's got us talking, tho, so maybe it has done some good? |
