Golfin on city's dime?
A pretty reliable source told me that several salaried department heads were absent from their jobs all day Thursday because they were playing in some sort of golfing tournament. While I don't necessary have a problem with them doing that, I certainly hope that they deduct that time from their accumulated time off (comp time). If they want to play and instead of work, we residents shouldn't pay for their time on the links. |

Re: Golfin on city's dime?
Not defending these people but we have golf outings here at my work. Several employees take part along with vendors and customers. The tournament is played at West Shore where my boss is a member. They get the day off with pay if they golf in the outing.

Re: Golfin on city's dime?
If my employer made me play golf, I would have to quit. As much as I hate to file, I would be happier filing papers all day than having to golf.

A bad day golfing is better than a good day working!

![]() If it wasn't an actual organized event (like an employee outing), then it would be proper for them to deduct the day from their vacation time or personal days. Realistically, this probably won't happen. But on the flip side, it is only one day (hopefully). Getting employees together like this outside of the workplace can do wonders for moral...so hopefully that one day off was worth the work that was skipped that day.

Not everyone got the day off, right? The beginning of the thread sounded like just a few management folks. That doesn't do squat for moral, it makes it worse. Oh yeah, this is why some inviduals got a raise recently. They have to "cover" when the boss it out. What a joke.

Re: Golfin on city's dime?
I think Ms. Brady could fill us in on this. I was told it was the two DPS supervisors as well as a couple other high-ranking department heads. And it was not a city-hosted event. It was like a chamber of commerce outing or someting of the like. |

Re: Golfin on city's dime?
GOLF HAS BEEN A REQUIREMENT in the past department heads and employees often participated in fundraisers.

Re: Golfin on city's dime?
If it was a Chamber event...then I would be inclined to excuse it. In business, management must often network. I can only assume it's a similar concept with department heads of municipalities. |

I loved to golf, but with my arms now, it's not in the cards anymore. |
