Fire starters
In another thread, there was talk about a new fence put up around teh high school. School officials are "smart" enough to think up that, but not smart enough to think it'd be a good idea to keep the kids who set Keppen on fire OUT OF THE SCHOOL!?!? I couldn't believe what I read today. Those kids who set the fire were allowed to stay in school, while teachers were afraid of what they might do next. I don't get it. http://thenewsherald.com/stories/09...050918015.shtml |

Re: Fire starters
That's a very decent article. Way to go Jason Alley.

Re: Fire starters
Did they catch the person that set the fire at Keppen? They owe the taxpayers $3,000,000.

Re: Fire starters
The article said two boys are charged with setting it. I guess we'll know if they were caught when and if they ever get convicted. |

Re: Fire starters
An 11 and 12 year old cannot be convicted. Legally, Juveniles cannot commit crimes, they can only break civil infractions. Unless they are charged as adults. In this case I doubt that would happen. No one was killed or seriously injured. As juveniles, the decision of the authorities will not be made public.

Re: Fire starters
What has an an 11 and 12 year old done in the past that would have adults want anonimity and be that scared . If there is a problem with parental supervision can't they be made wards of the state. Because they cause d millions in damages and placed lives in danger ,couldn't they be charged .under federal law with a felony. Have they threatened anyone in the past is that why district staff were afraid . Were they after someone in the gym class. |

Re: Fire starters
Another black eye for Lincoln Park. Hats off to Jason Alley and the News Herald for exposing this and forcing the slow moving school system to take action. I hope this quiets the critics of Mr Alley.

Re: Fire starters
I wonder how many families have pulled their children from Keppen school. I know I've done so 2 years ago and my children are doing so much better. It's a shame because I live right around the block from Keppen, making for a very short walk to school. So many of my neighbors have also pulled their kids from either Keppen or the whole LP district altogether. The NH said that the 2 arsonist live in the same building but not together, which means their families are renters. Big surprise. (No offense to the decent families renting here in LP, but if my children were suspended from school, they would not have been able to sneak back there and set the building on fire. They would have been home doing chores so nasty that their fingers would be blistered.) |

Re: Fire starters
If we have staff employed in our District who fear some students . I think we need to offer them a retirement and employee that are capable of dealing with the 11-16 year old Thugs that parents have enrolled in the school system. .The safety of our children in the schools, should be the #1 Priority.. |

Re: Fire starters
Shame on Mr. Kite for not knowing. He's the darn superintendent. He should know what's going on. shame on him. borders on incompetence. |

I'm not sure who is to blame. Is it the superintendent, the school board, the school principal. All have authority, but none seemed to do anything. But with anything else, I guess the ultimate blame lays with the person on top -- Kite. |

Re: Fire starters
If the boys end up being punished by the juvenile judge, I would bet that would open up the gate to the parents being sued by the district for their expenses. But if the juvenile judge doesn't find the boys guilty, I'd think it'd be hard for the district to go after their parents. |

Re: Fire starters
If they want to treat this like a simple vandalism charge instead of a felony /.arson. Each family should pay restitution at $1.300,000 per family. |

Re: Fire starters
Setting fire to a school reveals deep psychological problems. DEEP psychological problems. Everyone was involved in silly pranks when they were that age, but this reveals serious problems. These kids need psychiatric help or they will be in prison as soon as they are old enough to (agewise) legally commit crimes. |

Re: Fire starters
Nice Security System in place!! These boys supposedly "sneaked" into the school UN-NOTICED??? While they were already SUSPENDED??? Very reassuring. |

Wouldn't you think that Kite would personally check to see what happened and to sure the kids were out of his school? And what about the school board. Did they ask the status of the kids and were told they were suspended. The school system has no communication. And it starts with the School Board refusing to answer questions from the podium. |

Seriously, when I read about the fire and the boys in the paper, I could not believe it. They go back and attend school. Those little twits should be spanked and locked up for awhile. Kite should also be spanked and locked up for awhile. Maybe Higgins can shed some light on this "left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing" situation since he works for the schools.
