Has anyone noticed that The Farmer Jack grocery store at Fort and Emmons is getting yet another paint job? It looks close to the same color as before. Hopefully the rest of the plaza is redone in a uniform paint scheme. I applaud them for painting the plaza before but, the cast of colors in my opinion they are a little loud and unappealing to the neighborhood.

I also heard that after December the store may no longer be open. It could have been sold. I will get more info. from my sources next week. I'm not sure about the status of the employees if it was sold but this is another blow to the tax base of the city of L.P. if it does not reopen under a different store.

bil you sure are a dollar store nut!!! Have you gone to any of the council meetings and voiced your opinion about the number of dollar stores in the city? Council pesident Kandes is always talking about the new business coming into L.P. Let him know that "a viable business" (tax base) is not a dollar store every mile or so in the city!!! We have got to start getting more involved with the goings on of our city!!!! Any ideas on any other restaurants for L.P. or where they might go bil?

I don't mean to be at you bil but just trying to get others involved. With the amount of traffic that this site has per day there has to be someone that has a contact in the larger restaurant chains. Talk to someone and pass it on to the elected members and go for broke!! Who knows we may get one to look at us and that may spur newer invetments.

Just don't go on about how the DDA or the EDC has screwed up the condo devolopment.

Spartan will move into the Farmer Jack Store. Union is voting on a 10% Paycut. They vote no the store will close and reopen as a Spartan store.

Sad that we've lost so many of our Michigan based businesses. Think of all the stores you've shopped at over the years that have closed up. Geez, I got do an Arcadia Publishing book alone on just these businesses - Winkelmans, Gantos, Jacobsons, Hudsons, etc. etc.

My old landlord's ex-wife was a Borman. It was her family that owned Farmer Jack's until Atlantic & Pacific bought them some 20 years ago. I understand that they were not profitable at the time of the sale. However, I heard that this lady became a millionaire when she cashed out her stock!

I have a friend that is a vendor for Farmer Jacks thats how I heard about it possibly closing.

Now as far as the paint job I am glad to see it change. The new color matches with the rest of the color scheme on the south side of Emmons. Hopefully they will continue with that for the rest of the plaza.

I think tht the beige color is 5 million times better looking than the olive green. Theorange with the green and yellow and purple was/is nausious.

This is unconfirmed, but I have heard the union will vote against the 10% pay cut, which would cause the Farmer Jack's to reopen as a Spartan Store. Warning, this is all rumor that I have heard.
