[09-06-05] City Council SPECIAL MEETING - Road Millage for Ballot
Quote:
There has been a special meeting scheduled on Tuesday, September 6th, 2005 @ 7:00p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers. The agenda for this special meeting is to decide whether or not the following will be on the November Ballot: a) The 3mil Road Tax Renewal by itself with no other mils b) The 3mil Road Tax Renewal AND an additional 4.33 Mils that would bring us to the maximum allowable by our Charter which is 20mils (the additional 4.33 mils will be designated to the GENERAL FUND and not the Road/Infastructure acct. b) Elimination of the 3mil road millage renewal and place on ballot the a 7.33 GENERAL FUND millage (15.67 minus the 3mil Road renewal PLUS 7.33 EQUALS 20 Mils) maximum allowable mils by our charter which would be If the 3mil Road Tax Renewal will not be placed on the ballot, then our current mils would reduce to 12.67mils, BUT a 7.33mil (taking our mils to the maximum allowable by our Charter which is 20mils) Or any combination of the above Bottom line is that they may try to sneak in a General Fund Millage ..... they waited until a Holiday long weekend because they knew people would most likely not see the council meeting. Not to mention that they waited to the last minute to get this to the M&C vote as there is a 60 window wherein items on ballot must be given in proper wording to the Election Board. Here is a link to the Dept Head Staff Meeting Minutes. Duchane's Millage increase proposal is on the second page: Click here to view the minutes in pdf format Also take note on the top of that second page where it outlines the retirement funds going in and out. Remember when the lottery first came to Michigan? Is my memory failing me or did Michigan promise money for roads and schools? Robin, nice catch on the general fund issue. Beware voters!

Re: [09-06-05] City Council SPECIAL MEETING - Road Millage for Ballot
Something Disanto said in Tuesday night's council meeting about us paying 18+ Millage is bugging me. Why did he use 18mils WITH the 3mil road tax? I spoke with another council member about this and they say that our current millage is 15.67 WITHOUT the 3 mils road tax that expires this year. I have looked on the budget; listened to recorded council meetings; reviewing the dept head minutes and cannot find a solid answer to this. So I found my Summer 2005 tax bill receipt and this is what it says: City..................15.67750 Rubbish..............2.35140 Ret-Bond............1.23250 Roads................2.65950 St. Sch..............6.00000 Sch Oper..........17.21400 Sch Debt............5.00000 Sch Sink Fund....1.45830 County Oper........1.88280 With just adding the City; Rubbish; Roads; Sch Sink Fund the millage adds up to 22.1467 Ok I need someone who understand this subject better than me........ who can explain which of the mils on the property tax bill are used to calculate our mils? |
