Raises for deputies union at city hall??
Here is something for you all to chew on. I have heard that the new dps foreman are going into the deputies union at city hall. And it gets deeper than that. The city approached the deputies union about letting them join and the deputies union told them that they would only let the dps foreman in if they city gave the personell in the deputies union a raise to bring them up to the pay scale of the dps foreman. And guess what? No objections from the city. THEY WENT FOR IT!!!!!! Now from what I understand the deputies union already had a wage re-opener and got a $1000 raise in may. Now, are you aware of what the new raise is now? Apox. $2000!!!!!!!! Thats a $3000 raise for them since May. What did everyone else in the city get? Fire,Police,DPS mmm how much were their raises? Let me think about that for a minute.......................................... Oh yea thats right. ZERO ZERO ZERO percent. Two year extensions on their contracts that gave them zeros. Huge raise for the city manager, raises for city hall now. Whats next? Navigators for all the bosses and a chauffer for Duchane? I guess the city thinks doing paperwork is more important than public safety. I also heard that the minutes have already been typed and are available for public record. I know someone out here will go get them. If you do let me know. I dont have the time to do it right now. Guess the council meeting should be packed on monday eh? Moral at the city should be great now. |

Re: Raises for deputies union at city hall??
It's the GELC union we talked about in the other thread. It's the union for the foremen at the DPS and the administrative assistants at City Hall. |

Re: Raises for deputies union at city hall??
I have a comment for you HotPotato. Thank You for letting us know about this. This is sure something that was conveniently left out of the discussion at the last council meeting. Sounds like another selective raise to me. I personally didn't have a problem with the level of our city managers salary, because to replace him, even with a rookie, would still cost us more when you add the benefits to the equation. My only problem with him receiving a raise, is the same problem I have with this one. Don't ask for givebacks and 0% raises from the majority of the city employees and then turn around and give a few chosen ones a nice raise. Be consistent. This move will only cause low morale and leave a bad taste in many employee's mouth. It isn't right. |

Re: Raises for deputies union at city hall??
If they eliminated Mr Rose's job and gave his resposibilities to the foremen. Wouldn't it be right to give the foremen a raise.. ? Did DPS all want a raise if the foremen stayed in their union.? Was it cheaper to give the Deputies at city hall all a raise ? If Rose's salary and benefits were $95,000 and the new raises cost the city $30,000. We save another $65,000. What would it cost to give the DPS all a raise $70,000. Why wasn't there anyone On M/C willing to explain it to the people.? Election Year ? Too embarassing cause they didn't know?

From the meeting there was discussion about having two as supervisors instead of replacing the created position that Rose filled. Whether or not they are going to promote from within wasn't mentioned. |

Where I work, if someone leaves the company (fired, laid off, quit, died, whatever), and this person isn't replaced, his workload gets picked up by everyone else. We who pick up his workload don't get raises. What about where you work? Do you (and your coworkers) find you have to pick up someone else's work when they leave the company, without a corresponding pay raise? So, why should the foremen get raises? |

Re: Raises for deputies union at city hall??
Thats what they did in Allen Park, too. They said no raises for employees during the ERI, then gave a $10,000 raise to an appointed employee. It has caused the moral of all to go down. This is how the City, themselves, create "shovel leaners" (as Magoo would call them). When the City plays favorites, we all lose.

Re: Raises for deputies union at city hall??
The department is being restructured . If the union feels additional compensation us necessary for specific duties ,the city may have considered deputies as a comparable position and they all agreed to combine all further negotiations to benefit both the employees and the city |

stufuller . . .and don't forget that us agency folks at the auto companies don't get raises! Ford and Visteon instituted a pay freeze for all agency people about 2000 or 2001. Then in 2001 they cut our pay by 7%. The only way I've gotten a raise is by switching agencies (a big no-no) and finding a new job after a layoff. However, many of my fellow agency co-workers have not received raises prior to 2000. |

Re: Raises for deputies union at city hall??
Lets get back to the original point please. I dont have a problem with the new foreman actually getting foremans wages to do a foremans job. It's the fact that the union the city wanted to put them in(the GELC) felt that they needed to be compensated just for bringing two more people into their union. And the worst thing about it is the city said ok and just gave them the raise!!!!!!!!! Again selective raises!!! |

Hmm. So you "don't have a problem with the new foreman" getting raises, but you don't like "selective raises." So, you want these two men to get raises, but not everyone else in that union? And you're the one complaining about the other unions not getting raises? I'm confused. Why is it OK to you that these two men do, but not that everyone else does? |

Re: Raises for deputies union at city hall??
Ok Wolverine let me explain something to you. When an employee gets promoted from a laborer job to a foreman they get a raise. Hence the foremans raises. Got it? As for a union asking for a raise just for letting two more people into their union, thats sounds kinda fishy to me. Especially when the city is so called "Broke". Not all the people in a union do the same job. They have whats called classifications. In case you didnt know. Not all the employees in the other city unions get the same pay rate. Pay scales are based on their classification. The police officers have 2 unions. Patrol and Command. command have sgts lt's etc. Should they all make the same rate? no. The fire dept has one union. Do you think it would be fair for a firefighter to make just as much as a captain. What the gelc did would be the same as one of the young guys in the police or fire dept saying they want to make as much as a captain. Like that would fly, they cant even get a raise. But its ok for the union at city hall to want more money just to add member to their union? I think not. |

Re: Raises for deputies union at city hall??
They should be happy to have two more union memebers to use as a bargaining tool. Lets wait and see if this comes to fruition. The other unions will be all over this if this is true! |

It would be interesting to know whether mayor and council realized all this when they voted on it last week? That is, of course, assuming everything that is being said is true. |

Re: Raises for deputies union at city hall??
Raises for the buds at City Hall, go figure! They cut your employees and services, then give these folks a raise? In other threads, I read there are not enough police officers but there's enough money for an across the board raise at City Hall? In Allen Park, Howard Shifman came to town, cut employees (services), then they gave a $10,000 raise to an appointee! Sounds like Howard has caused havoc in both communities. I tried to warn the Allen Park employees during the ERI about what happened in LP. They didn't listen and they are crying FOUL now. Is there a councilperson that can explain these raises in Lincoln Park? I'd like to hear the City's side of this story. |

Re: Raises for deputies union at city hall??
The deputies at CH have as much ifnot more responsibility than a foreman The take over for the directors they are superviving and doing the job of the director when they are not there. I thunk they have been underpaod for too long.. I think both groups were fgiven a good deal yhey deserved. Chief Karnes and Solis both hired more employees. Karnes said we have the same number of officers on the street as before the ERI. |

No one is debating whether or not someone "deserves" a raise. When a supervisor is missing, just like anyone else, the rest pick up the slack. Also, if someone is missing for a period of time, the person taking over the responsibilities could be given something like "step up pay" while this person is fulfilling someone else's duties. I'm confused. If Chief Karnes says you have the same number of officers, then why are there postings about not enough officers and what services has been cut because of the ERI. Is it double talk, or are the postings in the different threads false? |
