political contributions
How do you find the info on political contributions to candidates? I want to check and see who took any contributions from the insurance company. I would not vote for anyone that takes money from these folks.

Re: political contributions
Wayne County keeps those records. I'm not sure of the dept. but you can attain them from county records at the City/County bldg. |

Re: political contributions
You can view candidate financial reports in the records room of the Coleman A Young building downtown. You have to know the name of the candidate you want and they will pull the files for you. It's very common for businesses that do business with a community to give financially. If you look for Lincoln Park, notice how much money is given to some of the candidates from the lieks of Hennessey Engineers and Geno Sorice, who is hired for the city's Pride program. |

Wayne County Clerk. Elections Office, Room 204 You need to fill out a request card and they will let you look through the file of the candidate.

Re: political contributions
If anyone get this list please let me know... I would like to post it. FYI During the site approval for the Oval Office (Adult Entertainment) a resident went to the podium and asked Mayor Brown how much campaign contributions he received from Mr. Bednarsky (owner of the Oval Office Lot). Mayor Brown stated that he was not aware of all who contributed to his campaign but if Mr. Bednarsky did, he would return the money.

Re: political contributions
I remember seeing a list of Brown campaign contributers...and I'm pretty sure Mr. Bednarsky was on it. If memory serves, he made a $400 or $500 contribution. Considering the maximum campaign contribution allowed is $500...I have a hard time believing that Mayor Brown "couldn't remember" or "didn't know" if Mr. Bednarski made such a contribution. Does anyone know if he returned this money or not?

When you hold a fund-raiser and 200 people come to it, every person who paid for that ticket has to be included in your campaign finance record. And if during your fund-raiser, you don't get around to talk to everyone, it can sometimes be hard to know who came and who didn't come. Luckily in this matter, it doesn't matter if Brown remembered or not. Anyone can look and if it's there, call him on it. The record will speak for itself, more so than his memory. |

The bottom line is that I believe Brown was trying to skirt the question by saying he "didn't know" or "couldn't remember" whether or not Bednarski made a contribution to his campaign. It is my belief that he was well aware of Mr. Bednarski's contribution, but that all of the controversy surrounding it caused him to "plead the 5th" (or in his case, plead loss of memory). These are just my opinions, however. But I posted the rationale behind them so that you can see why I believe what I do. |
