What issues in our Community Concern You the Most?
We have had several controversial issues happen in our community in the last couple of years and more are expected due to the economy. As a voter/taxpayer/, what issues concern you the most and what would you like to our city leaders resolve?

The ERI figures, only because these figures should have been resolved before the program was inducted. Other than this, I'd like to see the community clean up. This means businesses and residents taking care of their building and grounds. It also means getting the prostitutes off our streets.

- Blight in the downtown area - Prostitution - Bad roads - Lack of a PR person to promote the city (Wyan. has one) |

Doing PR is big job and a full-time job. WYandotte's PR person is full-time and the position is held by someone designated to just that - a PR person. Wyan. mayor or city manager or whatever mgmt. set-up they have do not act as PR person. The Wyan. PR person does a superb job of promotion Wyan. |

I thought one of our reasons for paying Duchane over $100,000 a year was for him to manage the operations...including the public relations of our fair city. |

Re: What issues in our Community Concern You the Most?
VS, I'm not aware that any city manager is expected to do PR for the city they are employed by. I may be wrong. It would be interested to learn if other cities with city managers expect them to do PR. My guess is no. A city manager job in and of itself is pretty full and busy. A PR job, if done effectively and consistently, is full and busy. Wrapping two jobs like that into one doesn't seem feasible or practicable. |

How did he go from earning $113,000 a year managing a city with over 125,000 residents (Sterling Heights) to earning $110,000 (including his 457 plan contribution made by LP tax dollars) managing a city with 40,000 residents (Lincoln Park). Lincoln Park is 1/3 the population of Sterling Heights, but he's only earning $3,000 a year less. And that's after he was fired for lying and costing his taxpayers $31 million. The price we pay for Duchane is supposed to be a "bargain". If he's such a "bargain", I'd like to think PR would be one of his job duties. |

Next time he gives his report at council, would you be willing to ask him if he does PR. Maybe he does some. LP should have a full-time PR person. They could do wonders for the city. |

My concerns in no particular order are the bridge it will be terrible for our community, crimes including auto thefts, prostitution, home invasions, and our buisness district really needs to be better promoted. |

Re: What issues in our Community Concern You the Most?
Jujitsu50 is right - we DO need a PR/Marketing person! I have stated this to various people at City Hall as well as at DDA meetings that the City needs a marketing slogan. (Remember Emily Gail's Emily's Across the Street store in the late 70's/early 890's and her slogan 'Say Nice Things About Detroit - Emily') Well, this is what a PR/Marketing person does. They write press releases, put together marketing plans and puts into motion things such as advertising! This is not the type of job that just anyone can do. The person needs to be highly creative and it helps if the person has some advertising agency experience. And they've got to be a top notch writer!! |

The bridge is definately an important issue. The upkeep and enforcement of people not doing so is always critical to any city. The roads are the roads. Any improvement is just a bonus these days it seems unfortunately. |

I would have to say that the Bridge. If this comes to fruition, nothing else will matter. Next the infrastructure. If we fix roads over bad infrastructure, we will be refixing the same roads over and over. We are letting areas where businesses could be thriving die. Downtown, Sears Shopping center, Fort St and Dix have to many vacant buildings. Which brings me to why do we get in Dollar stores, oil change places and cash advance places. We need to give this city a feeling of Hope. I don't know how to accomplish this.

The issues in the city that concern me are: 1. the increased rat problem 2. police protection including traffic enforcement, drug enforcement, 3. the bridge to canada, no matter what the citezins vote the politicians will deside where it goes. 4. LPpride program, the lack of enforcement 5. Building codes and the lack of enforcement for fire damaged houses. 6. the number of empty homes and businesses in the city 7. roads and sidewalks, still no answer as to when they plan to fix the street in fron of my house ( it is on the list is what I am told) 8. what can the city do to decrease the cost of energy for all the citezins of there city these are a few of the things that concern me, they are in no way in order of priority for my family.

What concerns me right now is the lack of work being done on Fort. The only work that is being done right now is at Champaign. Did the rest of the crew take the week off while these other guys work? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

Re: What issues in our Community Concern You the Most?
Dollar stores, Cash advance places, pawn shops and liquor stores are typically found in low-life cities. I don't like the idea of LP allowing them. If other cities can keep them out, why can't LP? |

Re: What issues in our Community Concern You the Most?
LP always was the place to go when I was younger. We would order pizza at Peppenias, Ribs from Zukins, buy flowers at Johnnys, our cars, fence, We would go to Sears for clothes and tools and does anyone remember Kowalski there? I really don't want people to come here for cash advances and dollar stores. |
