Underprivileged Anyway - Barbara Bush

The last I heard the reverend George W. Bush had refused offers of international aid to help with relief effort following Hurricane Katrina.

He turned down offers of assistance from Germany and Venezuela as soon as they were made – so the story goes.

Apparently Pastor Bush hasn’t been as honest with the American people as he has led many of them to believe or he didn’t have any concept of what was going on in his own country.

As of this writing the United States government has requested aid from Europe and NATO.

The Vatican is preparing to coordinate Catholic aid.

The president of Jefferson Parish in Louisiana had this to say, “We have been abandoned by our own country.”

Great Britain is sending 500,000 military ration packs. Over the past 2 decades British companies have extracted tens of billions of dollars from Louisiana in oil and gas.

Germany and Italy prepared military shipments of their own that can help alleviate the crisis.

The United States, which is occupying Iraq and Afghanistan, has requested blankets, first-aid kits, water trucks and food.

Condoleezza Rice, who was raised in Alabama stated, "Nobody, especially the president, would have left people unattended on the basis of race."

The response to Ms. Rice : Truly, many times in history people have been slaughtered based on race. In this case it seems that some people were left unattended on the basis of race, but the vast majority were left unattended on the basis of income and wealth.

Barbara Bush, former first lady and mother of the President said that the relocation for those Americans forced out of Louisiana is "working very well" in Texas. She said many of the people at the Astrodome were "underprivileged anyway."

There is no response for Ms. Bush.

Re: Underprivileged Anyway - Barbara Bush

Blah Blah .............. I suppose if Clinton could find time between nailing some intern and Helping our Enemy ( China ) make money at the expenses of Americans, he would have done a much better job!!!

I have asked this before on this site but none of you Bush Haters can explain it!!!

If all of these Democrates are for the working class people How come they got so much money??/ Why are 9 of the richest 12 Senators Democrats???? Why are 6 or 7 of the Richest Americans Democrats, How do you think that a guy Like Bill Clinton who has never held a Job or owned a business, he has always held a public office ( Which is not nessecarily the best paying job ) yet he is worth MILLIONS and MILLIONS of dollars, where does this money come from, What about John Kerry he has never owner a business either or really ever worked, he has primarilly held an office his whole life, yet his wifes money aside he is worth over 500 Million dollars, more than twice of what Bush is worth, and Bush's father was in the oil business, along with owning a number of business's and President Bush Jr. had an oil company that went BELLY UP!!! but he also owner a baseball team, with money he barrowed from his father..... But at least I can see where Bush got his money, can you enlighten me as to how those " For the Middle Class Democrats got theirs????? I am waiting!!!!!

Bellgreenkid Your listening io Air America way too much. Please remember Al Franken was a comediene. Jerry Springer is the Shock Host of TV tajk shows.

To play politics and make statements like yours, while people are suffering is sad.

Re: Underprivileged Anyway - Barbara Bush

Are people really holding something that Bush's mother said against him? Give me a break.

If we're playing this game, then let's talk about Bill Clinton's brother...convicted of selling cocaine. I'll even raise you one...let's talk about how Billy-boy granted his brother (along with over 100 others) a federal pardon for his crimes just a few hours before he left office.

Lucky for all of you, I retained this following article from the New York Times:
Quote:
Jan. 21, 2001

WASHINGTON - With just hours to go in his presidency, Bill Clinton issued pardons Saturday to more than 100 people, including former CIA Director John Deutch; former HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros; and Susan McDougal, a former Clinton business partner who was jailed in the Whitewater scandal.

Others issued presidential pardons in one of Clinton's last official acts were his half brother, Roger, who pleaded guilty to distributing cocaine in Arkansas, and Patricia Hearst Shaw, the heiress who robbed a San Francisco bank in 1974 after being kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army.

Clinton also pardoned former Arizona Gov. Fife Symington and Peter MacDonald, the former Navajo Nation president.

Just as significant were the pardons Clinton skipped. Without explaintions, he declined to issue pardons to one-time Wall Street financier Michael Milken; Leonard Peltier, an American Indian who was convicted of killing two FBI agents in 1975; former Justice Department official Webster Hubbell, who was a close Clinton friend and a former law partner of Hillary Rodham Clinton; or spy Jonathan Pollard.

The pardon of Deutch spares the former spy director from criminal charges for mishandling secret information on his home computer. Deutch, who resigned in 1996, has had his security clearance stripped. He had been considering a deal with the Justice Department in which he would plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of keeping classified data on his home computers. Deutch's lawyer, Terrence O'Donnell, declined comment.

Cisneros pleaded guilty in 1999 to a misdemeanor count of lying to FBI agents about payments to a former mistress while he was being considered for a job in the Clinton Cabinet. By agreeing to the plea deal with independent counsel David Barrett, he avoided a trial on 18 felony charges.

McDougal's pardon came just as independent counsel Robert Ray closed the Whitewater investigation with Clinton agreeing to relinquish his law license for five years and admitting he gave misleading answers in a deposition in the Paula Jones case.

Clinton's half brother, Roger, served prison time after pleading guilty in 1985 to a charge of conspiracy to distribute cocaine. He had tried to sell the drug to an undercover state trooper in Hot Springs, Ark.

Shaw's bank robbery conviction has been challenged for more than two decades. Numerous members of Congress asked then-President Carter to pardon her in 1978 while she was serving a seven-year term in federal prison. She participated in a bank holdup in San Francisco on April 15, 1974, but claimed from the start that she was coerced by the SLA.

Ah, ya gotta love the news media. Thanks for posting that article VS, can you imagine if the president who did that was president Bush, the media would have a field day with it, and we'd still be hearing about it. (this is the first I've heard about this, musta been burried) It's very devistating what happend in the Gulf Coast, I truly don't believe anyone thought it would be this bad. Not to mention the size of the area affected was enormous.

Fox news put a big whole in this story. Bill O. and the "no spin zone" showed how ridiculous this story was.

I think France offered us some cots. How big of them.

Re: Underprivileged Anyway - Barbara Bush

I don;t think it is fair to hold Mrs. Bush's comments against her son. Nor is it fair to hold Roger Clinton against Bill Clinton.

That being said I think the difference between a Bill Clinton and GW Bush handling this situation or any other for that matter, is that BC experienced being on the lower rungs of the economic ladder. GWB has never been poor. BC may be a millionaire now but I bet he can relate to poor people having been there himself. GWB was born into privelege. That is why I think that we get what we get when we elect people born with silver spoons. They have NO CLUE about being poor or middle class in America.

Rant Concluded.
