What is your guess on how the candidates will finish in the race for city council? Not how you WANT them to finish, but how you THINK they will finish.

It is too early for guessing the General Election. So here is my guess for the Primary coming up in early September. And yes, it is only my best Guess.

The top finisher is a toss up between Murphy and Kandes. Based on his poor performance as Mayor Pro Tem, I think Kandes will take a hit in the Primary. He could recover by General Election time, but I see him slipping to #2 in the Primary.

Higgins has the backing of the seniors. The Primary should be a very low turn out, even for a primary. The seniors will be a major factor. I see Higgins coming in 3rd and even giving a good run for #1.

Brady will take a hit for the cellphone controversy. No matter the explanation, she has a lot of voters angry about the bills. She will have to fall on her sword and campaign hard for the General Election.

If either DiSanto or Vaslo were stronger, I would see them passing Brady. But neither have the backing. They will retain their seats on the council, but they will not finish better than 5th and 6th.

I do not see any of the four non-incumbants winning a seat on the city council. Only McPartlin has the name recognition to pull it off. It will depend on how much campaining he is committed to and how much bashing his critics have prepared for him.

Rutherford? Ole Hockeyboy is always good to self destruct (he was the only candidate to go down in position from Primary to General Election in 2001). Plus, if he shows any strength, expect the mudslinging to come out against him.

Cotter and Lemuel have a long uphill battle. They have to get out and let the voters know who they are. This "True Blue" slate thing will probably help Lemuel. He will be able to ride the coattails of Murphy and Brady. How strong they do is how strong he does.

I do not see the slate doing that much for McPartlin. He has pretty good name recognition and he risks being pulled into the political mudslinging that Murphy and Brady will soon run into.

I'm going to wait until I see the candidate profiles for Council, but I think that the race for Treasurer will be between Craig Sochocki and Mike Myers.

I say it will be Lulko vs Sochocki, based solely on name recognition. Considering the election to narrow that race is less than a month away and none of the candidates that I can see have done a bang-up job of campaigning, I suspect it will come down to those two people as Myers remains a virtual unknown to most of the city.

But then there's the campaign ads running on cable. Sochocki opted against recording one. So people may not even realize he's running if they are educated on the race solely from the TV.

Lulko is the administration candidate, Sochoki was the Mayor and has to have some base of support still. Myers is the odd man out. I have not heard of any literature being sent by Myers and I gotta beleive that your Absentee Ballots have gone out by now and the only flyer that went out that I know of was from Vaslo. Sochocki will be 1 and Lulko 2. I think Vaslo will do better than people here think.

I think Vaslo does better than expected. I think Brady pays the price for the cell phone issue. I think Kandes drops a couple notches and Higgins benefits from teh success and coverage fo the business expo.

I do not see any of the current six losing their council seat.

It is quite possible that Brady would go down a couple of notches, but she will not lose her seat.

Where a councilmember finishes only effects their ability to choose what department/organization they will be a liaison.

Brady losing DPS would be the best thing for her political career. She hurts herself too often by standing up for them when they screwed up. On the other hand, they do not need to be constantly bashed like DiSanto used to do. But sometimes it is best to take your lumps. By defending them, she sometimes ended up putting more of a spotlight on them.

I do not see any of the four candidates making a real challenge. The voters are not stirred. Perhaps when the mud gets to slinging, it will get the voters stirred. But for now they are content.

Those behind the scenes are not going to waste their best stuff on the Primary. They will save it for October when the General Election is weeks away.

The True Blue Team sent out a flyer to all of the Absentee Voters last Friday and I have been going Door to Door a little, plan on more next week.

By the time of the Primary, most likely voters will have met me. I don't have a big campaign budget, so I have to pound the pavement.
