Council will be opening bids for Collection Agency to do Treasurer's job
On Monday's Council Meeting they will be opening bids from Collection Agencies to collect the Personal Property Tax. As we know, the collecting of taxes is the job of the Treasurer. For some reason, the city Treasurer does not want to do the job he was voted in to do. Councilman Murphy has offered in the past to help out in collecting the Personal Property Tax. I am against this. It is the job of the Treasurer, not the Council to collect the tax. And it is NOT the job of a Collection Agency. This tax certainly must be collected and it should be collected by the person who ran for the office, was voted into the office and took an oath of the office.

Now this really makes me angry. Why does the Treasurer feel this is not his job? Where is the outrage of the voters? Where is the outrage of the Mayor and Council? If a Councilman decided to stop attending meeting, would they take bigs for a contractor to take over?

Seems to me that we need to elect someone who can do the job. We had a salesman here at work that was like that. He would sit at home all week then on Thursdays he would come up to the shop and pick up his check. Good thing he got paid a base salary plus 2% on what his customers bought. He didn't have to make any sales calls. It caught up to him in the end and he was fired. Why do our city leaders put up with this? |

Isn't it bad enough we had a Treasurer who could for quite a length of time could not fullfill her duties due to illness? Now we have a Treasurer not fullfilling his duties because he doesn't want to. Any is the Council giving him an out? If he can't or won't collect the tax, he should step down. |
