I know the police are short staffed but.....
I live on Harrison Blvd. between Wilson and Gohl. Everyday all day and all night people run the stop signs on both corners like they are not even there not to mention doing at least 30-35mph. There are at least 14 or so kids on my block that I can remember that are all about 10 and younger. Most are 6 and under. It is very scary to see these cars flying down my street because it is a cut through to Goddard and a fire lane with one side parking. I swear if there was a police car parked at one of those corners they would make a killing on tickets and possibly many wreckless driving tickets. I do understand they are short staffed as it was explained to me by an officer after my car was side swiped on a hit and run and they could do nothing to find the person even though someone gave me the plate and vehicle description. I would just like to see these idiots ticketed for driveing the way they do and endangering those around them. Thanks, Jay |

I know what you mean Jay. The intersection I live on is just like that. There is no stop sign on fort park there. The honest people stop anyway but the law breakers speed through going mach 1. I did see a patrol car sitting behind Bank One at Fort and Sfield last night trying to catch speeders through the alley. or maybe he was taking a lunch. Don't know.

I was being nice saying 30-35 that was the low end. Cars seriously get up around 50 alot especially at night/dusk. It's horrible. |

Re: I know the police are short staffed but.....
LP_Jay - It looks like it's happening all over the place. I live near Memorial Park. When someone turns right, at the light off Fort, they have Ferris stop sign, and clear sailing until Electric. They pick up speed to 50-60 miles an hour. I, too, fear some kind will get hurt evenutally, if not killed. One time, my neighbor yelled to a City Towing driver to slow down. The driver stopped and backed his towing vehicle one and a half blocks in an attempt to intimidate my neighbor. My neighbor began walking over to the vehicle, and the City driver took off as quickly and as fast as he could. When reported to the police, was told there way nothing that could be done for whatever reason. My only question...why do we have to wait for a tradegy to take place before something is done? (Like the traffic light on Dix and Champaign.) |

I live at Buckingham and Lafayette. Same thing. I watched some clown last week speed thru and lose control and crashed into a tree. Its everywhere. I know someone will eventually get hurt/killed. I would like to see that portable speedometer put by my house. The light would probably burn out from flashing so much red! |

About a year and a half ago, a twelve year old kid was ran over at that intersection. He was on his bike, the driver, I believe drove through the stop sign, if not he must have been going to fast not to stop in time. The kid was wheel chair bound for months to include pins in his leg. I sure wish people would slow down. Whats the hurry, your just going to get where your going a few minutes earlier than if you were drive safely and at the speek limit. How can you enjoy life if you hurry through it. Take it easy. |

Re: I know the police are short staffed but.....
I think that if enough citizens complain about excessive speed on a particular street, they will place the speed monitor trailer there for a few days. So my advise is to call, visit or write to the police chief about the speed deamons on your street. Talk with your nieghbors too. Almost every time I venture out in the city, I see a patrol car out. I appreciate them being out on patol and being a visible deterence. |

yeh the speed monitor trailer, i remember that being on goddard. boy did that do the trick! maybe next time they can set it on its side in the middle of the street, then it might slow someone down. |

Re: I know the police are short staffed but.....
If we have allot of drivers exceeding the speed limits through residential areas, we definetly need one of those montior trailers with a camera attachment like I have heard about. I would be willing to use my cam-corder to capture the read out and rear licence plate if it was going on near my home.
