Coffee shop?
What are your thoughts on opening up a coffee shop in Lincoln Park such as something similar to the Grind in Wyandotte but totally different at the same time? ( though, can't give details on what would be involved...you know how business operates) |

Re: Coffee shop?
I actually thought of turning the Kmart into a huge place to get the teens out of trouble, place for fun, studying, and whatever you and them have in mind. Cyber cafe sort of thing. Wonder what type of people would actually consider sponsoring and/or investing into this company with me and a few of my close business partners. |

I think it's a great idea. I know the owner of The Grind.

Re: Coffee shop?
I'd like to see a coffee house/art gallery for the Mellus Building. Tuscan Cafe in Northville used to share a small portion of its space Dancing Eye Gallery. Plus the coffee house walls were decorated from art work from the gallery. This gave the gallery a way to get started and not pay the high rent costs. It is a struggle for many galleries starting out. Today Dancing Eye is established and in the Walled Lake/Wixom area. |

Re: Coffee shop?
I would love to see a nice coffee shop here. No Starbucks, that coffee tastes burnt.

Re: Coffee shop?
I do like Starbucks but the independent coffee houses seem to have a unique coolness that the large chains don't offer. |

Re: Coffee shop?
Many bars stuggle today due to the high cost of insurance. And many people no longer frequent the bars due to the tougher DUI laws. Thus, a coffee house is an ideal solution. |

Re: Coffee shop?
I take it we're talking about the Fort Street Pub and Brewery? Seems like it could be a nice little business. Lincoln Park needs to update its rather pathetic display and create a boardwalk somewhat similar to the one on West Jefferson in Wyandotte. The coffee shop looks like it's going to be a good start. |

Re: Coffee shop?
I guess I will get started on more detail of my business plan for one, sounds like it will be extremly cost effective to place one here. Thanks for all your support. Once money, investors, etc come in expect to possibly see one near Fort Brewery area. What do you guys think? What is with that strip club building? is that even in use? Let me know all your ideas. i also think a good old fashioned ice cream parlor like Wyandotte has. We can easily make LP cleaner, Just need more help of its business partners and community. Thanks for your support! |

Re: Coffee shop?
RedShadow, if you could follow thru on this you would be like, my hero. I really really really wanted to open up some sort of media cafe which would serve coffees and specialty beverages, as well as some finger food type stuff...but I have no capital. I hope this comes together for you! |

Re: Coffee shop?
I got in contact with the Small Business section of gov't. Working on a few things, have to talk with a few banks and what not. Then go from there. I wanted to see who owns a business around here that is interested in investing/sponsoring the opening of this cyber cafe type of business. Do you think I could/should go to the city for any input/income on this idea? Or just stay away due to we are such in a bind? Let me know your advise all!!! Thanks for the support. |

Re: Coffee shop?
There are resources out there for you. The SBA offers 7(a) loans, and depending on the building you choose you may qualify for certain state tax credits. Leslie referred to the Mellus Building, that may qualify you for historic preservation credits with the state or federal govt. As far as the city goes, perhaps you could utilize some CDBG funds. You would need to talk to someone in the community improvement department. The girl who now works there is named Casey. You can get the number from our main page. yourlincolnpark.com under city departments. |

Re: Coffee shop?
I would love the idea of a coffee shop. It would keep teenagers all in one spot (most of the time). My friends and I have always discussed at how "fun" and "cool" it would be to have a place to "hang out". I think it's a wonderful idea!
