We need a "part-time" Michigan legislature
Let me begin by saying I believe Mr Clemente is doing a Cracker Jack job as our State Representative. I think he is easily our best rep since Mr Hart held the position years ago. But I do wonder if we need a Full Time Legislature. There was a discussion on the radio this morning and it was noted that most states have a part-time legislature and they are doing fine. These states say "We create new laws from January to April. That's it" I believe that is how our Michigan Legislature should work. We can no longer afford to pay full time legislatures to attend women's auxillary events around the community.

If you consider being the only Democrat opposed to a minimum wage increase, and also being the only Downriver State Rep who has not shown up for the meetings about the new bridge (because I am told Big Business wants the new bridge) and if you consider his only introduced legislation is coincidentally tax breaks for Big Business to be a cracker jack job then you are correct. If you want someone to stand up for Joe Lunchbox (as you often say) then you best not vote for Clemente next year. That being said I agree that we should definitely consider a part time legislature.

A part-time legislature sounds like a good idea, minus Clemente.

Part-time would be fine. And how about 2 years off altogether every 2 years!

Re: We need a "part-time" Michigan legislature
I do not understand the negativity against Mr Clemente. Of course the only ones complaining are the two Carpetbaggers from Allen Park. Everyone should be aware these two supported an Allen Park resident for State Rep. They are still claiming some connection between Mr Clemente and Ms Perry. HOGWASH. I ask our Carpetbagger friends to answer this. Who paid the $100 filing fee for the "well fare" mom to be a candidate for State Representative? What's that? Cat got your tongue? |

First of all, Magoo, the reason for my displeasure of Clemente is his record, or better yet, non-record since he's been in office. And yes, I'm a supporter of Kyle Tertzag. So what, it's my opinion. Secondly, what's a carpetbagger? I think I remember that term used about thirty years ago when I was in elementary school. As usual, you stoop to low levels instead of making your point. Thirdly, you owe me an apology unless you can find one post with my name on it that even mentions this "Ms Perry". I was going to ask TGND who the woman was. And finally, what's a "well-fare" mom? After my first husband left me, I had no job, no education, and no credit. I received assistance (wellfare) and put my butt back in school in order to achieve independence for myself and my two small children. It took two years, and I've worked my butt off in my career ever since. I was a single mother for over ten years and paid my own way after that. I thank the tax-payers for taking me out of an abusive situation and still be able to feed my children while I educated myself. I've paid plenty of taxes in my time, and hopefully some of my dollars are out there helping someone else who is really in need. So if that makes me a "well-fare" mom, I wear the title proudly. NO CAT'S GOT MY TONUGE, "Mr. open mouth and insert foot". For your FYI, I've never met TGND. We are linked by insight and geography. I'm sure he can speak for himself! You are always so rude. Why are you like that? |

Re: We need a "part-time" Michigan legislature
It amazes me at people's lack of History. A carpetbagger was a term used in the South following the Civil War. Due to the war, many ex-confederates were not allowed to hold certain positions of government. As a result, Northerners would come down and take those jobs. They cared nothing for their new home. They were only there to make a quick buck. They were called Carpetbaggers after the carpetbag they packed to rush down to the south. Since that time, a Carpetbagger has become an outsider who sticks their nose into another community's business. My mention of Ms Perry was directed towards GuyNextDoor. I advice you to be a little less touchy in the future. My mention of the welfare mom was something uncovered by Mr Jason Alley of the News Herald. During the State Rep campaign, there were two female candidates. Ms Perry and another female of whom no one knew anything about. Mr Alley check up and discovered she was a unemployed single mother living in a one bedroom apartment on Goddard. She wasn't even sure she was running for State Rep. It certainly sounded as if she was paid to have her name listed. I have been around politics for 50 years. Please do not tell me this was not a classic case of dirty politics designed to take votes away from Ms Perry. I thank you. |

A little less touchy? Read your post again. You directed it to me, also. I looked up the term "carpetbagger" as I didn't remember if it was land or political positions they were taking from the South. Last time I read in the threads, you don't live in Lincoln Park, either. So I guess you think of yourself as a carpetbagger, as well. I believe the state rep position includes my district, so I'm not "sticking my nose into another communities' business. I lived in Lincoln Park for years, just like you ,Magoo. I enjoy patronzing the businesses and I have family and friends that live in LP. I also try and utilize my experience and training in working for City gov't for the betterment of the citizens, my neighbors, in LP. I will not apologize for that, nor do I deserve your name calling. I see you can't find a post with my name on it concerning Ms. Perry. That's because there isn't one. No facts on your part, yet you continue your disrespect for another member of . |

Re: We need a "part-time" Michigan legislature
Girl Next Door, Perry is the woman who ran last year and spent the whole campaign deluded that she had a shot at winning and trashing Tertzag. Several sources have told me that Perry and Clemente were in contact a lot during the campaign and cooridanted efforts to be at different events when the other couldn't make it. It was an anybody but Kyle kind of deal. Perry talked a lot of smack about Kyle and how Kyle is raising his son. She was infuriated when it came out that her son wsa a juvenile delinquent. I'm told he was most recently arrested for drug posession. Now that's not a knock against the kid, its a knock against a parent who claimed to know how to work with troubled kids. As for the young lady who also ran. I am told by several folks that she did it to help her resume and/or extra credit in school. I was also told that Perry showed up at her door late at night in a hysterical fit screaming at this girl and threatening her. The young lady may or may not have been on welfare or some kind of assistance. I don't know and I sure don't remember reading that in the paper. I don't think that is relevant. Even if she was does that mean she can't run for office? What is it Magoo rich people only, as long as they are not women, except of course for Perry. One thing that always struck me about Perry and the other girl was this, they both had the same qualifications to be elected................none! Neither had ever served at any level of gov't, neither had ever run for office, niether had ever been involved in their communities and as far as I know still are not involved. This wasn't city council or school board which are both excellent proving grounds for young and inexperieinced politicos. This was a Statae position. You should have more than 'I'm a woman and I'm pro-choice and pro-gay' as your platform. When Planned Parenthood endorsed Kaminski that told my wife everything she needed to know about evil Deb Perry. Look it always was a race between Kyle and Ed. From Day 1 until election day. That was it and everyone else was kidding themselves. If the race had been just KT and EC it would have been clean from the get and never gotten dirty and I think the result would have been much different. I know that Kyle likes Ed as a person and they have known each other for a while. I am told by a reliable source that Ed likes Kyle and had no ill-will towards him. It took Perry to dirty things up. FYI I am also told that the other girl who ran was a friend of Kaminskis daughter. Hmmmmmmm..............................maybe you have been shooting at the wrong target Magoo with your insinuations! |

But in Magoo's defense, he still owns a home, rental, and pays property taxes too here in LP.

Thank you, Robbie. Sorry, Mr. Magoo, as I didn't realize you had the right to an opinion, unlike myself. You are wrong about me. My intent is not what you portray me to be. It's very insulting to be accused for no apparent reason. It's disrespectful and unwarranted. |

Re: We need a "part-time" Michigan legislature
As was pointed out in the News Herald, the welfare mom was not enrolled in school, was not previously enrolled in school and had no immediately plans for enrolling. GirlNextDoor please show me where I implicated you and Ms Perry. Don't strain your brain because you will find none. It comes down to this. Allen Park residents are upset because a Lincoln Park resident was elected as State Rep. They say the Mr Clemente is really a Republican. WOW, what a horrible accusation. They are not saying he is a Nazi, a member of the Ku Klux Klan or a psycho killer. They say he is really a Republican. Perhaps they should take a good look at the Democratic platform. Who would want to be associated with that? Mr Clemente won the election fair and square. Get over it. |

He just ran under the wrong party, because he knows a Rpeublican can't win. So the Republicans hijack our primary and a half-wit like Perry is an ally in their quest. Next year will be interesting indeed! |

Does anyone else find it odd that I start a thread about changing to a part-time legislature and someone starts bashing on Mr Clemente. Then I get accused of being rude. Anyone else find that odd? |

Re: We need a "part-time" Michigan legislature
Nothing is odd when it comes to you! You started your post by lavishing praise on Clemente and I simply stated my opinion of his perfomance thus far. I also agreed with your premise that a part time legilature is worthy of consideration. You then went on a nut, as you are prone to do. As for this quote: As was pointed out in the News Herald, the welfare mom was not enrolled in school, was not previously enrolled in school and had no immediately plans for enrolling." I only remember seeing that she was unavailable for comment or could not be reached or something to that effect, nothing about welfare and nothing about school. THE RUMORMILL got those things going, I understand it was Perry's people trying to marginalize her so she would not be competitive. It fits with their MO of trash and burn politics. |
