Why are the police telling the bad guys who calls on them?
On several occasions the police have told the people I have called on that I called. Why is that? Anyone? How are we suppose to feel safe if they are telling the "Bad Guys" who is calling on them? When I have wanted to remain anonymous, they told me that they never disclose that information to the people you are calling about. Even at the neighborhood watch meeting that was said by the officer. So, it is obvious that they are NOT supposed to be doing that. Why would they? Why would they make me feel unsafe? Why would they jeopardize my house, cars and family? We don't know what these people are capable of doing. I've reported them for drug traffiking, child neglect and child abuse. Whose to say they would retaliate against me???? Please someone tell me something to make me feel better about this. I am so upset and frustrated. How are we supposed to have an effective neighborhood watch, if the bad guys are told who is calling on them. I think that would only make matters worse!

Rarely does the responding police officer know who made the complain. They are told to go to such and such address for such and such complaint. They are not told to go to such and such house because Mrs Crabapple at 301 Elm street made a complaint.

It's also not unheard of for a police officer to accept a token of appreciation from a bad guy in exchange for some useful information. Or, so I've heard. |

In this case it appears what they are doing is so obvious that the neighbors can see them. If one neighbor can see or hear them, then the entire neigborhood probably can. |

Re: Why are the police telling the bad guys who calls on them?
I think alot of the police officers in our city should be fired. I have a great example for it too. As I stated awhile back, myself, my brother, my cousin, and a few friends were playing hockey up at Council Point. Police officer drives by on River Drive. I happened to glance over and see it. Big deal, right? End of story. So about 2 or 3 minutes later, this guy pulls up on the grass, gets out of his car and starts playing hockey. I was thinking..."Shouldn't this guy be doing his job?" I don't know, it might be just me, but I think that is ridiculous. |

I've only had contact with the police a few times. Every time the officer (s) have been professional and extremely helpful. I give the men and women who choose this profession, a tremendous amount of respect. They experience and see things that I would not be able to handle and I appreciate that they have the fortitude to do the things they do for people like me.

Re: Why are the police telling the bad guys who calls on them?
I don't think that this is a situation where they are taking money for information. The people I am calling on, appear to not have very much money. Although, I suspect they are dealing drugs, so who knows? I'm about 99% sure I actually saw a drug exchange. I've reported that too. I don't think that the police are bad people or anything like that. I just can't understand why any of them would say "hey, your neighbor right there called because...." The guy across the street actually has said to my husband that the police told him that we called because the woman next door was a bad mother. And on more than one occassion he has said similiar things to my husband. The little girl that said that the police told her that we called is only about 10 or 11. I've never really spoken to her before, she lives down the street a bit, but plays with the kids next door. She said "Did you call the police on us yesterday?", I told her no, why? she then said "well that's what they said". I asked who said that. She said "the police. they said you called because we were playing in front of your house". And proceeded to tell me what they playing and so on. I was floored. Kids are so honest sometimes. I explained that if I had a problem with them playing in front of my house I would have told them, which I would have. I let her know that I don't like them playing by our cars. And that was pretty much the end of that. But, I know, that the kids next door obviously know the same thing. I don't really care that the kids know, it's the mother and all the other riff-raff over there that I feel is dangerous. When the kids are doing something bad, like shooting pieces of metal with a hockey stick into my backyard, I tell them to stop and explain how that could break a window, get shot of the lawn mower and hurt someone, and so on. They obviously haven't been taught this simple information, so I tell them. They always say , and stop. I have to do this so often that I feel like I'm babysitting through the window of my house sometimes. But in order to make sure my windows don't get broken, my yard ripped up, trash getting thrown into my yard, and so on, I try to keep an eye out without literally staring all day. It would make me insane if I did that, as there is so much stuff that they do that I don't approve of. But, as long as they are not in danger, or my house or family is, I try not to let that stuff bother me. I just want these people to get their crap together, or get out - they're renters - Sorry to go on and on, but this is a sensitive subject for me |

Re: Why are the police telling the bad guys who calls on them?
I never did understand why, when you call the police to report something, they ask who you are. Does it matter? One would think that most people calling would want to remain anonymous, don't you? Besides, I always use my cell phone to call so they can't see what my number is, if they have the capability.

Re: Why are the police telling the bad guys who calls on them?
I find it strange that the officer's would give up the actual person(s) who called in the complaint. I could see them saying that they received a complaint. Why would the dispatcher identify the complainant to the officer unless the officer needed to speak with the complainant before addressing the issue with the subject? If this is a situation described above, would the subject of the complainant see the officer(s) at the complainant's door? I am sure that it giving up who complained is something that has happened - how often and the reasons I don't know. I am just thinking out loud trying to figure out what purpose the officer would have in telling who made the call to the Police.

Re: Why are the police telling the bad guys who calls on them?
Robin - you make a lot of sense. I've been doing some thinking about this over the last couple of days and wonder, if the police are telling them that their neighbor has called and.... Then they are drawing conclusions from that? I just don't know what to think about the whole thing. I want to believe that my neighbors are just assuming that it is me. I mean, when it is very clear that there are small children playing outside all alone, I would imagine that anyone would notice something like that. I've never called regarding them doing something to my yard or house. I address that immediately, myself. I will not tolerate destruction of my property by no means. That has worked for me so far. But, when I'm calling regarding the saftey of neglected children??? These people are so loud and annoying, I would imagine that other neighbors see what is going on over there, especially the neighbors on the other side of them. I know for sure that 2 other residents are bothered by them. They just gossip about it though. I feel that something other than gossiping needs to be done. If the police are giving out my name or that their neighbor has called that isn't going to help my living situation at all. |

Re: Why are the police telling the bad guys who calls on them?
The police would say something about receiving a complaint from a neighbor, but they would not tell them who. Most of the time the responding officers do not know who called. It is usually not too difficult for the person to figure out who the complaintant was.

That's what I keep hearing DonDiego, but is it possible that isn't happening???? Or are my neighbors just ASSUMING that it is me???? Please read my last post also about the kids playing in the yard, and let me know what you think about that one. |
