Backseat Drivers
Why did none of the core group of 'ers run for mayor council? This has really got me stumped. Robin, DonDiego, Mayday, MasterQM, Robbie, DonnaBird, Veritas Scriptor, Primo, et. al. are very vocal about the way our local officials run things or don't run things. But none of you stepped up to the plate. You're like a bunch of backseat drivers. Being that you often become dissatisfied with how things are handled or not handled and discuss issues ad infinitum, getting yourself elected would seem like a logical step. Then you could put your money where your mouth is. Just talking about it on is like being in the backseat of the car and yelling at the driver. Why don't you jump into the front seat and get your hands on the steering wheel yourselves? Last edited by edwardandsusan : 10-29-05 at 10:16 pm. Reason: words |

Well, you sure could, Mayday, so feel free. The topic asks the core members why they are backseat drivers. |

HA HA HA You take all this too personal for some reason. I would have to expect you to take your own advice and show me how to do it first. If you are not running for office then you would need to stop talking about it too, if you take your own advice. I guess you expect all the citizens of Lincoln Park to be sheep and just follow without a peep. Thats a ridiculous thought.

Re: Backseat Drivers
Come on Mayday and Master QM, you're the only two to have replied, but not to the question. It's a forthright question and one that many people are most likely curious about. I guess you guys are just content to be sitting in the backseat and shouting out to the front, but never taking the wheel. |

Re: Backseat Drivers
Well I am not usually referred to as one of the core group but I have been paying for 99.9% of this sites costs since it began and I did run for the Treasurer's position. I was more interested in that position and felt I could have helped.

Re: Backseat Drivers
Myself i havent given any thought to running for any position, I am content doing what i do, which is raising my family, volunteering for my kids schools as often as possible, I work full time,I have two sons involved in scouting which is time consuming, i enjoy my hobbies which are camping, hiking and working out when i force myself Maybe when my children are older and i have more time on my hands it might be something i would consider you never know. |

Thanks, Lupin. I am certainly thinking about that and will decide and start campaigning early next year for the next election. I learned some things this time about campaigning and will do a better job this time. |

Re: Backseat Drivers
Sorry for not replying sooner. I had mass at 6am this morning, went to breakfast with the family and have been painting up until a few minutes ago. I would love to be able to run, but I do not have enough time to spare right now in this stage of my life to dedicate to city politics. Besides, what good could I accomplish if I have to constantly watch my back with the other city leaders looking to run me through?

Re: Backseat Drivers
I would like to know something of you edwardandsusan. I would like to know why you are trying to pick arguments here with us? Almost sounds like someone else we had here a little while back. |

Re: Backseat Drivers
I think this post was started because the initiator does not like the citizens questioning the city leaders. We are supposed to know our place. As if we only have to place our vote, then go sit in a corner and hide. |

Picking arguments? You have a weird take on that. I find it odd that you core people can spend hours and hours on the computer talking (and complaining quite a bit too) about our local officials, yet none of you step up to the plate and try to make changes. So what happened to that "someone else we had here a little while back". What? you didn't like them asking questions. YOu didn't like them challenging? It's a forum that says "Where everyone has a voice". Like some people have said, if you don't like it, don't read it. So, what happened to that other "someone"? |

I believe I already answered your question. by the way, there's a difference between asking questions and picking arguments. You are not merely asking questions. |

Re: Backseat Drivers
To imply that we should not discuss city politics, or complain about our city politicians, unless and until we ourselves run for office, is very unamerican and quite STUPID! And would running for office be good enough to have a right to exercise our freedom of speech, or would we actually have to be elected? E&S, thanks for helping!
