 *The upcoming evacuation...the biggest honor to happen this year*
Homeland Security was a security branch enforced after the tragic September 11th attack. EIt's job is to make sure that every state is caught up on it's requirements for secuirty issues such as drug lockdowns, fire drills, and what not. Each year they choose one school out of a state to perform an evacuation process. They have students actually act out and get on hauled up on stretchers and get driven in an ambulance to Wyandotte Hospital. Every student is evacuated to another school and each classroom has an evactuation route. It is acted out as if something real were happening, such as Columbine. Homeland Security does this to make sure that the state is prepared for any tragic event and that the students know what to do. This year they chose Lincoln Park High School as the evacuation acting scene for Michigan. Next Wednesday, April 27th, 2005 at the beginning of 5th hour classes, the evactuation drill will begin. The police, fire department, news stations, and ambulances will be there acting as if something is really happening. Each class will have an assigned classroom in the middle school to evacuate to (the middle school has provided certain wings of the school for this) and there will be a specific evacuation route. The evacuation drill will end at 2:25pm almost at the end of 6th hour and all classes will return to the high school. This is a very serious event. We (Lincoln Park High School) are representing the entire state and their secuirty status. This is a very important and big honor. i am confident that our students will step up to the plate and take this seriously. I know we can prove to the whole entire state of Michigan that we are not just some school that is full of "losers" as our reputation stands. I know we can do this and I am confident we will. Wish us all good luck and be on the lookout for news information.
Tomorrow all 5th hour classes will be taught on how to properly evacuate the building. Pay attention.

I'm liking the idea of the evacuation, but putting kids on stretchers and driving them to Wyandotte Hospital? WHA? :P
At least we'll get to see the ol' Middle School again..aye, comrades? |

It went fine. No major mess ups that we were aware of (as students) When we got back, with an hour left of school, Dr. Evans had each of the teachers talk with their class about the drill and their feelings on it. I know my class get into a very deep conversation about and almost stayed past the bell.
