Troy cancels their parade. Will LP do the same?
Here is a link to a story about Troy having to cancel their parade.
http://www.detnews.com/2005/oakland.../B04-154664.htm It is a budgetary problem and will save the city of Troy $17,000 LP is having similar problems. Will they be forced to cancel the Memorial Day Parade. Money was raised for the parade, but the cost of gas has gone up so much that some organizations won't be able to come unless they can get more money.

Someone said it costs the city alone about $14,000 in setuo clean-up and overtime for city employees. Maybe they can get the employees to waive the timeanda half and do it for straight time.

I think that we should do it for free. They should volunteer their time. I mean should they get paid for helping with one of the nicer things that our city does? I can not attend this year's parade but I hope they don't cancel it. Been marching in it since I was in kindergarten, thats a long time!

I know it sounds nice to say "They should do it on straight time" or "for free", but Overtime is Law, not to mention Union Agreements in place.
The Parade, The Cruise, Lincoln Park Days, all require additional DPS, Fire and Police efforts. Who do you give your services to free and who do you stick with the bill? Everything costs money. I don't think it's fair to expect anyone to work for nothing. There are also plenty of voluntary based things ... Goodfellows Christmas, Community Clean Up (First year was last year, Tons of DPS showed up to volunteer), Fantasyland, Organizations like LPPA, The Historic Museum, Meals on Wheels. How many of us pour free efforts into these things? I'm not saying none of us do...because I know for one I am involved in tons of things. I'm just saying different people can do different things. If money is what it takes, then dig into those change cups and put out some coin. If the support is there, it will do fine. Anyone who enjoys this parade and partakes in the festivities should stop by city hall, mail a dollar, or send Virginia Mondon a check made payable for the Lincoln Park Memorial Day Parade.

Whatever happened to the Police Reserves? They used to to the Parade and they did it for free.
City only had to pay for DPS to set up. DPS cleaned up the next day.
