Hawaii set gas cap
When will Michigan do the same. I have seen several petitions to lower the price of gas to 1.00 a gallon these are unrealistic, $2.50 a gallon is here to stay, Michigan should set a cap at that price. What are your thoughts about it??

Re: Hawaii set gas cap
i feel that they should do the same $1.00 would be nice but we all know that wont happen so i would say $2.25 would be more realistic jmo |

Re: Hawaii set gas cap
A gallon of water cost a $1.00 at some stores. A Cap would be great. I barely remember the gas shortages of the late 70's. Long lines at gas stations. I hope that never happens again.

I remember those shortages. For a couple years, as a kid, we didn't even make it up to the cabin. Comes with having an LTD station wagon with a 351 Cleveland.

Nationalize the oil companies if they don't stop jerking us around with these gas prices . Bush being in office is like the fox guarding the chicken coop . |

Re: Hawaii set gas cap
Artificially capping gas prices is not the answer IMO. If the gubmint should do anything about it, they should allow more refineries to be built and more oil exploration here in the US. When adjusted for inflation, we, here in the US, are still getting by cheap compared to other countries, especially those in Europe.

Re: Hawaii set gas cap
IT's not like 10 or 20 years ago, people live farther from their jobs! For every job I apply to first thing the emlpoyeer wants to know do you own a car. Why so they can be sure that you will come to work. As the gas prices rise companies have to raise the cost of their products to cover the added fuel surcharges being added to their product. Those customer that do not allow a price increas (big three car makers, contract work) the company making the parts eats the cost, which when I go ask for a raise to cover the cost of Gas is denied because the company does not enough to cover the increased pay. So if I whine about gas, remember that I have not had a raise in three years, Also note, when the oil companies report BILLIONS in profits every quarter, when the gas station at the corner of Regina and Dix raises gas three times in a four hour time period I will complain, the words price Gouging come to mind. But since the State of Michigan cut the number of gas station inspectors from 16 to 8 they do not have the resources to investigate price gouging. the supreme court ruled that eminent domain could be used to aquire land for use for hotels, private businesses, why not use it to aquire land for refineries, I know 19 possible areas that could be used, ( refering to the 19 propsed bridge crossing points in the state of michigan, as found at : www.michigan.gov/mdot in the studies area, several of the location for truck inspection areas are empty factories or land. If I keep typing like this I might be able to have a longer post then Veritas Scriptor ( just joking ). So I will stop now and let everyone pick apart what I just typed. |

Re: Hawaii set gas cap
The problem in building more refineries is not, from what I understand, a problem of land acquisition, but a problem of (over)regulation by State gubmints. |

Re: Hawaii set gas cap
Last night got me worried. The wife and I had a party to go to and we turned out on Fort, passed by the Citgo by Emmons, lined up out to Fort St. Went down further, the Mobil at Goddard, lined up out to Fort. Went down further and the Fasttrack just south of Northline in SGate, didn't have anyone in there. I pulled the car up to the pump and there was a sign, "Out of regular and mid-grade gasoline" at atleast that's what they said. I opted to just pay the $2.85 for premium there instead of waiting in line at another pump for $.10 cheaper gas. I hope it doesn't get more worse this weekend for the trip up north, but I know it will. |

Re: Hawaii set gas cap
its just a consumer product, if you dont want to pay the price dont buy it, if enough people dont buy the price wil drop. my self if i was in the buisness of selling gas and oil, i would make all the money i could, get it while gettins good, same with anything. sell at the highest price the market wil pay. |

yeah right 10,000 comedians out of work and your being funny. THe price of gas will not drop if suddenly everyone in the country quits buying it, my opinion is if everyone stopped buying gas for a day or two days , raise the price higher, everyone can survive one or two days with out stopping at a gas station, but go a week and your on empty, it would be like a pack of hyenas on a wounded antelope, the oil companies would have such a demand as american ran out of gas that they would insist on raising the price to cover the cost of producing mor gas to cover the increased amount from everyone filling there tanks. The only way I see gas coming down is if the government does something, a gas price cap, reducing the federal gas tax, seizing the gas companies making them federally run , |

Re: Hawaii set gas cap
the sidewalks are empty, every other vehicle on the street is a huge suv or a deer hunter special pickup, all kinds of boats, motorhomes, travel trailers etc. theres no problem with gas prices yet. when the largest car on the road is the a subcompact, when the sidewalks are full of people doing there shopping, when the speed limit on i-75 is down to 55mph then you know theres a problem with gas prices. right now people complain, but its not a problem. |
