Why didn't anyone on the council challenge the mayor in this election?

I am curious why no one from the city council challenged Brown for mayor?

Is Brown to tough of a candidate?

Good question. I was hoping Mr. Murphy was up to the challenge.

You know I have thought a lot about this too. I just don't see Brown as being that formidable. The only thing I can think of is that maybe it is too much of risk for the other councilmembers. It safer to just stay on the council than run for mayor and risk losing your seat. And lets face it, is being mayor that much more than being on the council? Sure you can vote no against appointments like Iheart, but other than that it is a weak mayoral system.

I think that Murphy would make a fine mayor. I also think that Kandes would be pretty good, once he learned the ropes and was able to manage the meetings. I just think Mark needs to bring his ego down a little.

I think that no one wants the position with LP being in the condition it is in. If everything was like the city called Perfect from the Walgreens commercials, then you'd have them lined up for petitions.

Re: Why didn't anyone on the council challenge the mayor in this election?

I remember a time when there was many candidates running for mayor. If nothing else, there were a lot of people who gave serious consideration to running. They would have to send out feelers prior to pulling a petition to test how strong they were and whether or not they had a good chance of winning.

Sochocki vs Sall and then Sochocki vs Brown were the only true mayoral races of recent vintage with any substance. The race in 2003 between Brown and Sall was merely Mr Sall's attempt to bring down Mr Brown. Too late. Mr Sall was past his political strength in this town. In fact all his supporters had sided with Mr Brown. It was sad to see an elected official who was so strong at one time, having no one in his corner.

Gone are the days of true races for Mayor. Stempien vs DeMars, DeMars vs Shiedold, Shiebold vs Gish, Gish vs Bonora, Bonara vs Paddock.

I think LP is in for a series of unopposed elections for the next few years.

So then MR. Brown is the only person willing to meet this challenge?

Politicians do not like to look bad. Many will avoid serving if they feel they would have to roll up their sleeves and actually make a difference.

It is the people who truely care for the city that step up to the plate during tough times. They care nothing about future political ambitions. Nor do they care about adding something to their resume. They serve because they feel they can help.

This has nothing to do with my original post.
It is just a question for our council which probably will not get answered.
