A&W on Southfield
Does anyone know when this opened as an A&W? My dad has a very old 1/2 gallon brown glass jug that has A&W on the cap, he says it came from there or the one on Jefferson in Ecorse that's gone out of business. I wish it said LP on it, it would be at the museum.

Re: A&W on Southfield
My dad settled in the Detroit St. & Electric area after finishing with WWII. I tend to think it came from LP. |

Re: A&W on Southfield
Robbie I asked Jeff today when the A&W opened it was 1956, his father bought it in the early 60s and now he owns it and a few years ago he bought the one on Eureka off of Fort. Jeff and I use to hunt together but I lost the taste for deer meat, so I don't go up to the cabin anymore. We use to hunt at Dales cabin the guy who use to own Detroit paint and glass, had a lot of fun up there, but I won't hunt and kill something if I aint going to eat it. Rocky Rocky |

Some of the car hops ( do they still call them that) are beautifull, they know too, the tighter they wear those jeans the bigger tips they get. Of course it makes no difference for me I am married and as such my thoughts are as pure as the mountain snow!!! Rocky |

Re: A&W on Southfield
Since you guys went , I'll join in. The A & W on Southfield has the best darn hotdog around! When I visit other A & W's, they fail in comparison. Don't know why, but LP has the best!

Re: A&W on Southfield
I have an A&W up north in Lewiston at Smitty's. I don't get their coney's for that reason, it's not the A&W chili. Same thing with the A&W right by Great Lakes Crossing. I go to Jeff's Southfield location for lunch alot. They always get a good tip, if you know what I mean. He's got good deals now too, .99 coneys everyday. The one that used to be in Ecorse on Jefferson, closed now, used to have what they called Swampwater. It was a mixture of root beer and something else, boy I miss it, it was good. |

Re: A&W on Southfield
Robbie!!! Just because I have been known to stick a couple of dollar bills in a G-Sting or 2 doesn't mean my thoughts are not pure, hey those poor girls are trying to work their way through medical school, and I for one know how hard and expensive school is, so while the act of being in Uncle Pervies nude bar and theroputic massage parlor my be some what questionable, I will remind you not to confuse the act with the "Thought" I assure you my thoughts for those poor young women was as pure as could be!! And that kind sir is that!!! Rocky |

Re: A&W on Southfield
There was a Daily Drive-In used to be on the southeast corner of Dix and Outer Drive. It was in business til the mid 60s. A gas station was then built on that site. Boron? When the gas station closed (mid 70s?), Johnny's bought it as a storage area.
