Meet the Candidates Night
Are there any questions you would to ask the candidates on Meet the Candidate night held in October. We would like to compile a list of questions to ask the candidates. Your support is needed and appreciated.

Re: Meet the Candidates Night
I have a question to be asked at meet the candidate night. Of the current councilmembers which ones of them are willing to take accountability for the purposed city hall move ? Who\'s idea was it anyhow ? There had to have been 4 members allowing the purposed study ? I want someone to stand up and admit to it. |

Re: Meet the Candidates Night
There was not four members that allowed that study. There was never a vote to allowing the study. I found out about the idea at a DDA meeting from someone at the meeting talking about it. (not a member of the DDA) The idea is dead in the water now. There was never enuff spent on the idae to bring it to the floor. It was a bad Idea . The DDA own the building that was talked about and are trying to sell it for the Indan art center. |

Re: Meet the Candidates Night
I hope the candidates for School Board attend. I would like to ask Dawn Johnson why she did not bother getting the necessary signatures for her petition. I would like to ask Ronald Kovacs why he erects oversized political signs in residential areas. I would like to ask all of them what they intend to do about the low MEAP scores. I would like to ask all of them about DARE and why the past school board did not support this worty program

Dawn Johnson paid $100 to the city clerk to have her name placed on the November ballot. Candidates can either gather the required number of signatures or pay the money. Johnson decided to pay the $100. DARE is funded by both the schools and the city. The schools were the first to pull their support. The city used CDBG funds for the DARE program. When the school pulled their support the first time, the city went ahead and funded the majority of it. The following year the city decided not to fund DARE since the school system would not match their obligation.

Re: Meet the Candidates Night
I'm not sure if this if the right thread to ask but is it true that people running for the school board aren't allowed to pass things out at the polls? I had heard this and just wanted to know if it were true or not and if it is why can't they. |

Re: Meet the Candidates Night
I'm not sure on this, but, might be a good idea to create a thread of it's own under the schools area. Might get more response.

That's not true at all. Anyone can pass out information at the polls. There are rules that must be followed, such as how far away you have to stand away from the polling location. It's X number of feet. But anyone -- school board candidate, city candidate, Girls Gone Wild producer -- has the right to stand there and attempt to hand things out to would-be voters. |

Re: Meet the Candidates Night
GIRLS GONE WILD, which precenct? I believe you're right about distance and the right to give hand outs. I really don't like to receive them at the polling station. By then I have made up my mind and you cannot bring them in with you. I'd rathur hear from them before election day.

I agree. If I see a hoard of people standing outside a polling location, I'll purposely walk around them so I don't have to put up with their last minute talk. That 10 second "vote for my candidate" won't change my mind. If anyone is walking in to vote and doesn't yet know who they're voting for, oy. That's scary. As far as GGW, I think they'll be outside the band shell this year. They're working on a new seniors video. EWWW. |

Re: Meet the Candidates Night
When is this event supposed to take place and where? I have never witnessed one of these before, but feel the need to attend this one. Does Mr Magoo have any insight on the GGW senior video? What a thought, quite humorous and slightly disgusting. |

Re: Meet the Candidates Night
Yes, I would like to know WHY, council member don't live up to their campaign promises until election time comes around. They sit on projects until, "oh no! election time again. Lets see what I can do for the citizens so I can get re-elected" it seems as though not much gets done until this time of year. And hello everyone, I new to this site. |

It will be taped that night and aired at later times on the same channel that airs the council meetings. |

Re: Meet the Candidates Night
According to the News Herald, this event is put on by both the Friends of the LP Library and the Chamber of Commerce. Looks like this will be the only Meet the Candidate Night of the year. I can remember a time when most civic organizations held such an event. I wonder if nowadays they are too intimidated? |
