Council members please explain !!!
I was wondering if any of the council people , could please explain how Grandfather clauses work. It is my understanding that you can no longer have a truck rental business in LP unless you have it in the industrial park??? yet the City Grandfathered Dream Pool in!!!! Which I don't have a problem with , but I along with a few other business owners want to know what makes them different from us with the Fireworks, you gave us a 18 month extention which we appreciate, but nonetheless you still took them away from us because some members said that you can't Grandfather any more yet you did the truck rent just a few months before I think. Lastly you have alowed the truck rental that was Grand fathered to change hands!!!! We are wondering why one business gets treated one way and others a different way. I am sure it had nothing to do with one business originally being owned by a former council person. Please explain. Rocky |

Re: Council members please explain !!!
The forworks ordinance The Uhaul ordinance The ERI The roads milling and capping The condo/parking lot incident What do all of these have in common? All were passed before anyone on the council researched or even thought through the concequinces. Our Mayor and Council have dropped the ball countless times like this, in failing to do the proper research and analysis before just throwing an ordinance out there. They never seem to stop and think, "m, how is this going to effect the residents and businesses of LP?" |

Re: Council members please explain !!!
Don't be too quick to judge someones spelling pistons, alot of the time it's merely not being able to type, I know my husband picks at the keyboard with two fingers and it takes him alot of time to type a sentence, if I waited for him to correct the typos, it would take all freakin day. I think when you read the posts by the person you're referring to, you catch his drift. Don't judge. |

Re: Council members please explain !!!
That to me is wrong. Even if the business is the same, it is basically reopening under a new owner. This should be based off of the owner also. |

Yes Rocky, So why weren't you given a "Grandfather' for the sale of fireworks at your store? Personally, If I were you I would approach Higgens or Mario and ask them to introduce a new ordinance that allows you and others to be grandfathered in for fireworks. Higgens is really beating the pro-business drum right now, so now might be the right time. If they wont do that, here is another suggestion. Make them spell out every last detail about the sprinkler system you need. Tell them you want a full report on what pipe it should be made of, how far apart the sprinkler heads need to be, What is the operating pressure, what is the inspection schedule for this system, will it only need to be operable while you sell fireworks versus just storing them? I would hit hard with questions like that. They can't even figure out how to replace sidewalk squares, let alone a sprinkler system, so you might just cause enough confusion and trouble to make them scrap the whole thing! |

Re: Council members please explain !!!
Jeyhey you must have read the State law on Michigan Legal Fireworks, they recognize a difference between selling for a given period of time versus "Storing Fireworks in a business" the state according to a Judge in Monroe County does NOT require a sprinkler system if you do not store fire works or keep over 5000 lbs, which I could not even fit 5000l bs in my store!!! I have been trying to find the State Building code on Fireworks but can't find it any where. I had a copy a judge in Monroe gave us and I lost it. Also according to the Melvindale Fire Instpector, the building codes are just a recomendation, if every City enforced every recomendation there would be no one in business including many City owned buildings.
