No more LP Days?
Somebody talked about reopening this topic (Mr.Magoo I believe) because it was over a year old, so here it is re opening. The time is here for LP Days. They start tomorrow. I am not going. It is the same old thing every year. Nothing new and nothing more interesting than the year before. I personally enjoy the Taylor firework festival more than I ever have LP Days. I think LP Days is just becoming an old habit to a lot of people and is not that enjoyable anymore. I know tons of people this year that said they are just sick of going and are not attending this year. Anyone else feel like that?

I do not plan to go, either. The one time I went , whenI was dating a girl who lived here in LP, before I bought my house, it was a zoo, unsupervised kids everywhere, rude carnies, and the rides, to me do not look safe. Just a question does Michigan requie the rides be inspected before they go into use?? VS you might have that answer.

Re: No more LP Days?
I will agree about the Taylor fireworks. But Lincoln Park days is a family tradition. And for people with classic cars, like myself, I enjoy the car show. They did add a few new things on the midway that I noticed last year. They have a mechanical bull and bungee jumping. Not anything to start the wave over , but it is SOMETHING new. |

Re: No more LP Days?
I would not allow the grandchildren to ride any rides at LP Days. The Midway is really running out of fun and innovative ideas isn't it. They have only a handful of organizations anymore. They are having more and more privately owned operations running booths. It used to be for community based organizations. The present LP Days is only 25 or 30 years old. LP Days itself is as old as the city, but the format changed drastically throughout the years. It wasn't until the mid 1970s that they began having a Mini-Midway and Carnival Rides at Youth Center Park. It may be time to rethink what LP Days is all about. Perhaps having events in the North End. The mini-midway/carnival ride idea is tired and old.

Re: No more LP Days?
I for one would miss LP Days. It's not just rides, go in the back where you can watch bands, see animals, I think there is a bike show, food. Fun don't come to you, you have to go for it.

Re: No more LP Days?
LP Days is hokey. If you compare it to the annual summer events of surrounding cities, it really sucks. Trenton Days, Dearborn's Homecoming, etc. These events are updated, draw a nice crowd and are not hokey. |

Re: No more LP Days?
If we could somehow generate more interest in having booths there (like Allen Park's street fair) that would really be cool, but until we can generate more interest & get the cool stuff there, I don't hold out a lot of hope for it ... |

Re: No more LP Days?
Volunteers with the Exchange Club set this up each and every year so that families can have something fun to do before school starts back. If you really think it's that bad, step up and give the club some ideas on how to make it better. They generally have abooth at the fair. But, better yet, why not join the club, volunteer next year and put your own ideas to work. I don't mean to diss anyone here, but I think what really sucks is people complaining about something being organized by a volunteer community group. Talk about supporting your own. |

Re: No more LP Days?
Maybe people complaining about it and giving new ideas would help it to change. If no one voiced their opinion on it, then it would just stay the same and lose more and more people each year. The rides and what not just need to change. The same ones every year get annoying and there needs to be more. Taylor's is amazing. Wow, I mean they go all out. Compared to Taylor, we look like we just called a few people (although I know that that is not the case). Do you get what Im saying? Its not that they dont do a good job, its just that hardly anything changes or gets added and if it does it is something in the far back of the tents or something of that sort. I think it needs to be open a little longer hour wise too. Some teenagers dont even get off work until midnight or those hours. Or it could be earlier in the day. Maybe some people like to take their kids before they go to work. I dont know. Im just throwing out suggestions. |

Maybe thats what we need then. An organization like Meijers to fund it or something of that sort. Meijers or not, it is awesome. |

Re: No more LP Days?
My kids love going to LP days, we try to go every year....I prefer taking them in the day though because 2 of them are younger and it makes it less crowded and we have to deal less with some of the trouble makers that show up...but I think you will find "trouble makers" anytime you get an atmosphere like that especially later in the night....But me and my boys would miss LP days if it were no longer here...I think seeing about getting Meijers to sponser it would be a great idea, maybe even help find a way to expand the fair, offer a bigger and or better selection of rides and attractions...jmo anyway

Re: No more LP Days?
Yes it would. It is such a bigger park than the community center's. There would be so much more. I think the reason it is at the community center is because of the main street access (getting people to come from seeing it driving down the street). Council Point is kind of tucked away in the corner. You cant see it from Southfield, you only see the trees that start the strip it is on. Plus the road it is on is insane with curves every which people and people that dont know how in the world to drive. I have seen so many people drive 80 down the street and whip around those curves. It does have a huge space for the rides and the tents would be able to be a little spread apaprt instead of right on top of each other. The walkway in between the two sides of tents would be wider too. Trying to squeeze by people in that little pathway between the left and right sides of the tent area is a pain. It would over all be a great idea, it's just some things would have to be blocked off (the disgusting river, the river facing the houses). It has a baseball field and a huge track so that would provide for some entertainment. Also a bigger play area and more picnic areas. Great idea |
