This is what is really going on...
Lincoln Park High School has an infant room as everyone is well aware of. I have always thought that the infant room has never had any problems and what not. I have thought it was a good program and that the women that work in that room had all the proper training. I was so very wrong. My friend <edited by admin to remove name> has an infant in the nursery and this is the inside scoop: The two women who work in the infant room are not even lisensed! They are only allowed to hold 12 children in the room until they get their lisense and they are allowed to have 18 children. So as much as everyone does not agree with this baby room, there are still little babies that the school has offered to take care of that are not even being cared for by a lisensed person or a lisensed baby room! So why have a nursery if no one is lisensed to take care of the babies? Another thing is that these two women do not do a good job of watching these babies and it has become obvious. Yesterday an 18 month old little boy was playing and standing up while the one woman was doing paperwork and the other was feeding a newborn and he fell. He stood back up after he fell and made a fuss and he walked a little and fell again this time cracking his head off of one of the tables and needing four stitches. So what kind of caretakers are these women if they are not watching an 18 month old and doing paperwork instead? The baby falls down and fusses and the woman was said to not even have turned her head. How in the world can people like this be taking care of infants? I dont care whether they are the children of teenagers or not, they are children that the school has offered to take care of and they are children who need to be looked after. Opinions anyone (on the women and the lisense, not on the mothers of the children we all know about that)???

It could be that the school itself is licensed to take care of the children and might not have to have the workers licensed. It is sad, as you say, they are children and do need to be cared for in the proper way. Maybe you can find the laws about this online and help do something about it. I will do a search this weekend and see what I can find for you. The mother of the child should be pressing charges for child neglect at the least.

A shame. All around. What a sad commentary.

I dont think anyone will be sued. The mother is just glad he is okay. Im sure something will be said. I think Emma is right that the school is lisensed but the workers are not. That does not make it any better though. No matter if they are the children of 16 year olds or not does not make a difference either. They are innoncent children that are not being looked after correctly and these women are getting paid for doing nothing. I am gonna look around online here in a second. Thanks for your help Emma. |

No, your right Mandie, it don't matter whom the mother is, the children should be cared for properly. I posted some links for you in another post. There is an online complaint form that could be filled out and submitted. I also think from what I could read on the LP HS Liscense, it is for 5 to 13 yr olds. There could be another one listed for the babies, didn't look to far into it to be honest. |

Re: This is what is really going on...
Even though it's a public school, this is still technically a day-care like any other day-care, yes? This could be reported. There can only be six children per person--and if there are 18 kids and 2 workers...clearly they're a little under-staffed. Especially when workers take time out of watching kids to do paper-work. They need more people so that the responsibilities can be balanced out--paperwork can be done while other women watch the kids. If the school paper wasn't a censored sugary "Fairyland" world, I could very well do an expose on this as an Editor this year. Oh well. |

Re: This is what is really going on...
Congratulations on Editor It could be considered a day-care in a viewpoint way. The only difference is that in a day-care the parents pay the workers to watch their children. I am not even quite sure if the workers in the nursery get paid. I know the one woman's grandson is in the nursery and she just had nothing else to do during the day. Whether they get paid or not would be something to look into. A day-care also gets government help if requested. The high school nursery does not because they have city help. I know that for sure. They have more than two workers. The two adults barely do anything as I hear. The nursery is a class. Two students per hour can sign up for the class. The class is just taking care of the kids. There is no homework and no book, you just take care of the children like you were working in a day-care. You get an automatic A for it unless your attendance is poor or you prove you do not know the first thing about taking care of a child. The only way to sign up for this class is to pass Parent-Child Development (where you recieve and take care of the robot baby for three days) with a B+ or higher. You must also have teacher signature on your schedule form. Usually the nursery is booked with students because of the fact that it is an easy class. So the workers do have help, the students. The students do more than the workers do. The workers are catching up on paperwork and other things while the students are taking care of the kids. They also have help during the lunch hours. Each parent must come in the nursery for their lunch hour to feed their child lunch. They have to spend their whole lunch period with their child every day or their child gets kicked out of the nursery. The student worker that works before the lunch hours (3rd hour) goes down to the lunchroom and gets the parents' lunches for them. Their lunch and child are waiting for them when they get there. |
