Hall of Shame
I think we need a section titled 'Hall of Shame'! CVS is looking fairly shabby since I emailed them in early spring. Walgreen's is starting to look pretty shabby too! Is cigarettes butts and sticky gum what these retailers consider 'shabby chic'?? |

Re: Hall of Shame
I was in the process of contacting Walgreen's last night when the door bell rang. Thus, I haven't gotten back to completing my complaint on the Walgreen's! Robin - a 'Hall of Shame' section would be cool. That way when we contact these retailers we have a link to send them!! |

Re: Hall of Shame
What about the thrift store in Dix and Leblanc? It sure looks junky. About the ordinance officers, yes, where are they? On week-ends there are garage sale signs all over city property, which is not supposed to be allowed. Also houses for sale signs. I also have seen signs on Goddard for Southgate and on Emmons for Wyandotte and on Dix for Allen Park. If we are not supposed to put these up , what about these cities? I live in the South end and it is looking pretty bad. Cars for sale at the old donut shop and in a lot between Moran and Riverbank on Dix? No tickets? Bill and Sons looks like a junk yard, who do they know? A yellowCorvette has been parked on Ford and Dix too close to the stop sign, no ticket not even on garbage day. Why? |

Re: Hall of Shame
Store owners should clean around their stores. Looks like the LP Plaza is getting repainted. It needs total remodeling. Old Navy is moving out. It is going to AP, the new shopping center. |

Old Navy moving? Looks like if they all move and the owner remodels the plaza, who is left to move back in? A whole plaza of cigarette shops, cell phone stores and dollar stores? |

Re: Hall of Shame
Rumor has been that the owners of the Sears Shopping Center has wanted stores to move out so that they can redevelop it to fit in another anchor store...like a Kohl's. My pet peeve at some of these shopping centers is the black spots of old gum on their sidewalks directly outside the stores! |

Re: Hall of Shame
We need an ordinance that requires businesses to maintain their property (i.e. landscape, mulch, weed control) there property to include anything that would be unsightly to the commmunity. Similiar to requirements that you might find in Condominium assocation. I don't believe we have such an ordinance. While some businesses might initially frown on this or complain of the additional cost of maintenance it would be nice to drive down the street and not see dead grass, weeds, or other eye sore businesses. |

Re: Hall of Shame
SuprMan, There are ordinances in place now. We just need the ordinance officers out there to insure they are followed. We need low cost loans available for businesses to remodel their front facade on their buildings. I just wonder what the chamber of commerce and the EDC is doing. Lower the speed through our "downtown". And fix up the store fronts. Even on the vacant buildings. I really like towns like Saline. They have a great main street and downtown area. |

Yes, our EDC does have loans for facade improvements and other improvements. Part of the DDA's 'traffic calming' plan is to lower the speed on Fort Street. With a lower speed you notice more of the businesses. Yes, Saline is an awesome town! One of my favorite antique stores is on Main Street there . . .'Salt City Antiques'!! |

Re: Hall of Shame
I think it should be a little slower on Fort. Especially in the right hand lane with people opening their doors up right in front of you. |

I agree 100%...but that's an MDOT issue. The state of Michigan owns that road.

Re: Hall of Shame
I believe our Ordinance Ofcs. enforce noxious vegetation, I'm not sure they enforce the business owner who has a weed bed in front of there business. I'm aware of the money available for improvements, however without an actual requirement for businesses to make improvements most will not. |

I think slowing the traffic down on fort street would definetly help people to notice the buisness's in our area. |

Donna, that is what they are planning in Allen Park. They are slowing down traffic on Allen Road with the implementation of added parking and decreasing the amount of lanes when you hit the downtown area. If you slow the traffic down, you sure don't want to display unkept businesses etc., that would defeat the purpose. When I worked in the Records Bureau, there were plenty of tickets coded under "noxious weeds". This also creates revenue from those that don't comply to the betterment of your community. Sounds like a win-win situation for LP. At first you might hear some venting, but all will get used to ENFORCED rules over time. Then when you slow the traffic down, consumers will see a professional, customer friendly atmosphere. Yes, I think Robin should create a "Hall of Shame".

And on a positive note, maybe Robin could create a "Hall of Fame" category for those businesses that put forth effort to improve the community. |

Re: Hall of Shame
Lincoln Parkers should get on the band wagon w/ the businesses in Lincoln Park and have a Mardi Gras- walk/crawl (an event)-benefit/fund raiser. This might motivate businesses to clean-up their joint. |

Re: Hall of Shame
It would be a great promotion to the businesses who deserve the recognition. As a consumer, I'd appreciate knowing who is "shamed" as well as who is "famed". |

I'm all for it. I will be glad to capture some digital pictures too if my help is needed. This may just be what is needed to clean up some dreary looking areas of our City. |
