Coming soon . . . Arcadia Publishing book, Lincoln Park
Good news - our book went to press Friday afternoon. Arcadia says that their printer is running about 17 weeks right now. So, that puts us mid-January when the book will be out. Lincoln Park Preservation Alliance authored it. All profits and royalties will go to the Lincoln Park Historical Museum. It is going to be an awesome book. Lots of hard work went into it. You'll be hearing more as it gets closer to the end of the year. We'll be doing advance book sales and book release parties at local businesses! |

Basically the book tells the history of Lincoln Park through the old photographs at the Lincoln Park Historical Musuem and other photos we borrowed from various families. We received scans of Preston Tucker photos by the Tucker Historical Collection and Library at the Gilmore Car Museum at no charge. We purchased two Tucker photos from the Indianapolis Speedway too. If your not familiar with Arcadia Publishing then check out their website www.arcadiapublishing.com and their Images of America series. Our book is in that series. We scanned over 200 photos for the book and wrote captions for each photo. It is going to be an awesome book. |

The cover is going to be awesome! It is a early 1920's photo of Fort Street looking towards Arlington Street. In the background you see the smoke from the Fort Rouge plant. At the Shop Lincoln Park Expo we had a couple of glossy print outs of the preliminary book cover. As I get more info from Arcadia Publishing you'll hear more from me here and at the City Council meetings! |

I will be interested in this book too. Sure glad they decided to use a real view of Lincoln Park on the cover unlike what [like someone posted a few days back] was placed on the cover of the "Happenings".

I do hope they run a picture or two of the Wheel Barrel bet. Two Lincoln Park officials had a bet with each other about Lincoln Park being annexed by Detroit. There was an election put to the voters of Lincoln Park and the voters voted to stay an independent city. As I said, two elected officials had a bet about how the election would turn out. The loser had to push the other down Fort street in a wheel barrel. Hillarious.

Re: Coming soon . . . Arcadia Publishing book, Lincoln Park
The wheel barrel thing was before my time. I remember hearing about it from my mentors. They used to re-inact the wheel barrel bet during (I believe) the Memorial Day Parade. Those were different times. Rivals had different ideas of the direction of the city, but they still worked together. Can you envision Mr Brown and Mr Murphy having a Wheel Barrel Bet over the Millage Resolution? Mr Brown is such a stuffy person, I think if he ever did win such a bet, he would stand up in the barrel. And I could never see him pushing the wheel barrel |

That was my first thought, Robbie. Good luck, Leslie! The Lincoln Park Historical Museum is a worthy cause.

Re: Coming soon . . . Arcadia Publishing book, Lincoln Park
We are veering a little off the topic, but I would like to make a quick statement. The "founding fathers" of Lincoln Park cared very deeply about making LP the best community for their family to live in. Nowadays, our local politicians appear more concerned with their future political asperations or present power base to give much concern to the "greater good" But back on topic, I find this history book a Cracker Jack idea. A Super Cracker Jack idea. I wish it would have been avilable at Christmas time, but the wife and I will have to wait for January. I have seen other Arcadia Books and have been very impressed. Leslie is a prime example of what can be done when a little gal has a great idea and wants to carry it through |

Yes, Magoo, there is a picture of a wheel barrel bet. This one is of Mayor Jasper Howard, Counciulman Clarence Hicks, Councilman Russ White and Councilman Frank Burton. I don't know the year. Jasper Howard was Mayor from mid 1930's to 1947, though. |

What will the ARcadia book cost? There's a bookstore in Dearborn that sells them for $4.99. |

Magoo . . . according to Muriel Lobb, our museum director, the mayors of council of yesterday were Lincoln Park's business people. So, obviously their agendas were different. And they lived here and put their kids through Lincoln Park Public Schools. Today things are different. |

All of the Arcadia Publishing books in their Images of America series are $19.99. Sometimes you can find the Arcadia Publishing books at Wal-Mart and other stores for less money. Magina Books, I noticed, had some Arcadia books on some other communitie, mostly out of state. |
