Check This Out!!!
Was talking to some friends this evening Told me their daughter and upstairs neighbor were sent a letter from the state letting them know they were being taken off state aid because those coming here from the hurricaine need the help more Interesting how the news isn't telling people about this So, screw the existing residents of Michigan and give their money to people from out of state What a crock |

Re: Check This Out!!!
No surprise there. We can thank our short-sighted inept Democratic Governor for that. She brings in 10,000 people from Louisiana, into a state that is economically depressed, and kicks our fellow Michigan citizens to the curb. |

I don't believe that the State is that efficient or on top of things to send out letters that quickly. If the TV news or newspapers report that people on state aid received letters saying they're being removed from assistance rolls because hurricane victims need assistance, then I'll believe this. I think you should contact the local papers and TV stations. |

Call Levin Dingell Kilpatrick amd Conyers they sat in Washinton and created 2 generations of poor people with their .programs. .Taxes . and poverty incentives over thirty years . Than you LBJ and all your followers. Hey John Dingell you give new meaning to "comes home to haunt you" Levee commision invested in gambling. Wash. DC cut the Army Corp Of Engineers and Fema to pay for social programs in the 70's and 80's. Why Didn't they follow the Regelese Plan to evacuate The City..

Re: Check This Out!!!
I have to agree with Jujitsu on this one. The government is way too slow to have moved so quickly on this. I don't see anyone getting kicked off to allow these refugees to get on the roles, but I see them opening the rolls to allow them to get on board. And I do not see Michigan being the one to do this. I would say it would be HUD being the one that hands out the aid.

Our local television stations are part of the liberal left wing media. They'll only report the shenanigans of the Democratic Party as a last resort. |

Then I'm sure one of the right-wing radio stations will quickly pick up on this story. |

Re: Check This Out!!!
Aren't there time frames in place now on how long you can collect benefits from the state? I remember that Engler was one of the first govenors to revamp our welfare system and that no longer would we have generations living on state aid. Perhaps her time limit was up.

Re: Check This Out!!!
Michigan or HUD has not removed anyone from Welfare in order to place people displaced by Katrina If this person got kicked off of welfare, it has nothing to do with Katrina. The State and HUD review their participants all the time. They remove those who no longer qualify on a regular basis. |

Re: Check This Out!!!
I dont believe the government should pay you because you lack the education, or motivation to better yourself. Good....they should kick everyone off of state aid. This country is going to XXXX in a handbag because of Democrats. The strong survive and the weak are killed and eaten. That is natures way of weeding out the unfit and bringing the strong to the front to carry on. If you don't like your life...DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT...DON'T JUST COMPLAIN ABOUT THE STATE CUTTING MY MONEY THAT I'M GIVING TO YOU THROUGH EXTORTION BY THE GOVERNMENT!!! |

Instead, I believe that we should adopt a predominantly Capitalist system, but with Socialist controls. In other words, I believe that many people need help getting on their feet. But instead of coddling them for life, we should be motivating and training them to do for themselves. "If you give a man a fish, you've fed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you've fed him for life." This should be the fundemental rule behind our system of socioeconomic policy. I agree that we should not simply be handing out freebies to everyone. But I don't think it means we should cut them all off, either. We should be helping people to get on their feet and contribute to society. If they're legitimately unable, then I have no problem with a socialist program that will care for them for life. But if it's simple a matter of laziness or unwillingness...then I think they should be put on a sliding benefits system. They will see their benefits dwindle into nothing while they're sitting there and deciding that eeking out an existence in the greatest country in the world is not for them. I have absolutely no sympathy or compassion for someone who is given the tools to succeed, but fails to use them. I watched a Jerry Springer episode one night where he hit the streets of Chicago to talk to homeless teens. Most of them were just crybabies. Springer offered to buy one kid dinner so he wouldn't have to eat out of a trashcan, and he declined it saying "This is my life...it don't matter to me." Springer asked the kid why he didn't secure a job...and the kid made up 101 excuses. Everything from "I have no ID" to "I have no mailing address". Springer told the kid he would get him an ID and a mailing address, and the kid only thought up of more reasons why he "couldn't" do it. That's the problem with many of our welfare recipients...they have this chip on their shoulder that life is just too hard and that it's "impossible" for them to do anything about it...so they don't even bother trying. That kid really annoyed me. My first job was at 15 years old...and I didn't need a mailing address or ID for it. I was paid cash under the table. This kid was 17...he could have done something similar. But he decided that it was an "all or nothing" deal. If he couldn't have a real job with a real ID and a real address, then he didn't want any of it. That's not how the world works, folks. Sometimes you have to make do with what you have and work towards something greater. Instead of roaming the streets complaining about your "awful life"...you can get a cash job and save enough money to get yourself an ID and a box at a 'Mailboxes Etc.' office. Those PO Boxes are listed like apartments...an employer would never know if it were a physical address or not. In the meantime, you can spend a few dollars a night living in a shelter and eating. It's not The Ritz...but it's a start. And it beats having to sleep in a concrete doorway and eating out of a dumpster. The way I see it...when you are homeless, you've got nothing better to than to work. You can work two or three jobs if you wanted to. It keeps you off the streets. You might even get some "fringe benefits"...like if you were a dishawasher at a restaurant, you might be able to score some clean table scraps. It's better than a dumpster where you don't where the food came from, nor how long it had been sitting there. If you can work two or three jobs and you have absolutely ZERO expenses...imagine how much money you can save in 3 to 6 months! Even if you only earned $5 an hour under the table and you only worked 60 hours a week...you'd earn $300 a week. That's $1,200 a month...CASH. Without a car or insurance payment...almost anyone can live off $1,200 a month. 3 to 6 months of saving...and you could have more in cash savings than many middle-class families have! But instead, they want to wallow in self pity and whine about how "impossible" it is. I'm sorry, but that kid chose that lifestyle. He has the power to get out of it, he chooses not to. Shame on them. Life is hard for everyone...from the super wealthy to the super poor. You can't walk around complaining about it and expecting people to coddle you. It gets you nowhere. Above all, if someone is offering you assistance, take it and use it to better yourself. Don't sit back and say "Gee...I'm taken care of now...I've got assistance!" It will run out one day, and you will be left in the same position as before.

Other participants are handicapped. Many work for a living, but need state or federal assistance to make ends meet. The world is not a black and white as SuperMan would like to believe. I am all for kicking off welfare cheats, but there is a reason such programs exist. |

Re: Check This Out!!!
The whole system needs to be overhauled. After working almost 40 years I applied for assistance. I was told I probably qualified 30 years ago for physical disability. When i told them they could pay me now .I was sent for 2 Psychological evaluations within 2 weeks . A month later I was sent for a Physical evaluation. ,that included some of the same questions I had to answer on the Psychological tests. Then I had to give releases for records in Minn Minn., Langley Va.,and Ann Arbor. 2 days later I recieved a letter I was approved. The next day I went to the office . I asked them what the approval was for and they couldn't tell me if I was approved for physical or mental disability. They hadn't recieved all the paperwork. They only knew how much I would get One day later i recieved a check in the mail that said it covered the previoust 3 months. It was the most disorganized mess I have ever seen .a lot of people going thru motions and Doctors and technitions all overlapping the same informationand tests. it can't be ifficient. they're wasting a lot of money. they still can't tell me what I was approved for .,but I will be going through the same testing in 5 months. |

Unless I see the document stating what is alleged, I do not believe it. Furthermore, I'm sure some media outlet would/will jump on this story and that, if true, there would have to be at least a few tens of people, or more likely, a few hundreds of people that this has happened to.
