Councilman Disanto wants to know WHY department heads are not at council meetings from Meeting September 12, 2005
During the meeting Councilman Disanto asked Mayor Brown if the policy has changed for department heads to be present at the meeting to answer questions. Mayor Brown says that there was never a policy to have department heads present at the meetings and that when there is an agenda item affecting a dept, that department head is generally present.

I forgot to add to my first post : Thank You Councilman Disanto for at least reading the forums. Some members voiced their concern that departments heads are habitually not at the meetings particularly when it comes to questions from council and the Lincoln Park Taxpayers. Hopefully we will see a change in the near future. |

Brown said Department Heads are only requested to be there if they have a resolution on the agenda. What about Citizens Communications? If someone from the Building Department was there, they could have answered some of the questions (like the time frame to complete the parking lot, etc.)

That's exactly what I said when I brought this up. Department heads are paid well enough that they should be there for each council meeting to answer residents' questions. There's no reason they should have to wait to get an answer. I know for a fact other communities require their department heads to come to the meetings. So should LP. |

It all depends on the conditions the dept. head was hired under. If there was no requirement as a condition of employment for the individual to attend all council meetings, then they would be hard pressed to enforce their attendance. Besides, if you have a questions for a department head, all you have to do is use the telephone. Better yet, make an appointment with them |

I believe Counciman DiSanto got those concerns from this website. I'm glad that he is beginning to take the citizens here seriously. I have to admit that I got a chuckle out of his comments about the issue. Mayor Brown tried to skirt around the question (initially) and move on...and DiSanto stopped him: "You didn't answer my question...I want to know why we don't have all the department heads here."  Way to go Mario!
