News Herald ignores the intersection controversy
Last week at the council meeting, there was a lot of talk about how certain intersections were authorized for repair. No official council resolution can be found on these intersections. The work was done last year and talked about at length on this forum. Then on Monday, Pat Roberts brought it up at the council meeting. When he mentioned it, you could hear a pin drop. That is until Brady agreed there was no council resolution. Brown and Brady got into it at the end of the meeting when Brown thought Brady was out of earshot and brought it up. Brady heard his remarks and came back into the chambers to challenge what he had said. So what did the News Heald investigate work being done withour official approval and payments made to the contractor? NO. They had an article about holding the DTE check until the lights were back on, but nothing about the intersection controversy. Jason, just when I was starting to have a little faith in you, you let me down. I bet it will be brought up again tomorrow and perhaps at the Meet the Candidate Night. Jason and the News Herald won't be able to avoid it. |

Or maybe they did look at it and determined that the ineundos being tossed around were inaccurate? |

Re: News Herald ignores the intersection controversy
Is anybody surprised? I'm certainly not. They rarely report any negative if it has anything to do with Vaslo, Kandes or Brown. And as far as not reporting innuendos, that has never stopped them before. The bottom line is they are simply a mouthpiece for the administration, especially certain members of that administration. I think there is more truth in the National Enquirer than the News Herald. It's a real shame that our local newspaper is so bias. |

Re: News Herald ignores the intersection controversy
I think we should give Mr Alley a chance to investigate the matter. I am sure he is looking into the situation and will do a very good article on the subject. Who can object to the way he has investigated and reported the problems with the River Rouge school system? This MTV generation of instant gratification mystifies me. Oh Yeah, "Is anyone surprised" that Primo is bashing the News Herald? Primo. please return to your cage.

Re: News Herald ignores the intersection controversy
I was glad that the News Herld did cover the city holding payment on a DTE bill due to streetlights not working. Its a shame it has to come to holding a payment again to get something fixed in our city . At least we will have a new system to report the outages . I hope this will get things working faster in the future. |

Re: News Herald ignores the intersection controversy
There is at least some truth to this issue.... Refer to resolutions 04-399 and -04-400. These two resolutions related to this exact issue. Res 04-400 states that Howard, LeBlanc, Ford & Council are designated by M&C and 04-399 Identified that GV Cement is awarded the bid of $165,000 for streets to be designated by M&C.

Re: News Herald ignores the intersection controversy
He's had plenty of time to investigate. This is not the first time this issue was brought up at a council meeting. This issue was brought up months ago. Magoo, I'll return to my cage when our city is rid of this bias trash of a newspaper., and IMHO, so called loser of a reporter. |

Really? I don't remember it being brought up before. And I'm just throwing this out there because I like to spur debate. When the whole cellphone issue was raised, several members here said that the entire council was to blame bececause they knew about Brady's phone bills and did nothing about it until it got way out of hand. If this issue came up months ago and people knew about it, isn't then the entire council to blame, instead of just the few people being named so far on this board? |

Re: News Herald ignores the intersection controversy
I have to agree. The NH already knows the answer . The engineer probably picked the streets to be done .He had to put the project on paper for an estimate, and chose the only 2 that came close to the amount of money they had. They should have voted on it ,for approval though. There is no one on the Council with the capability of presenting the work specifications for the project to a contractor .

Re: News Herald ignores the intersection controversy
I'm not sure I follow your reasoning Wolverine. Brady questioned this before, and didn't get anywhere with it. As a council person I don't think there is much more she can do. In fact, you're suggesting that as a council they slap each other on the wrist and say let's not do this again. I don't think that will ever happen. The cell phone issue was pure ambush politics at it's best or worst depending on your point of view. . It was no accident Brady had a different cell plan than Kandes or Vaslo. The trash can incident was no accident. Is it a coincidence that our city attorney has friends at Channel four, and Channel four felt the need to ambush Brady at her place of employment. I wonder who told them where she worked. Vaslo and Kandes stopped using their cell phones months before the story broke, Coincidence? I don't think so. Big Mouth Vaslo was Johnny on the spot with a liturgy of comments, and Kandes made sure he made a few both in the paper and at council meetings. I believe Kandes, Brown, and Vaslo knew long in advance of the story breaking, that Brady's cell bills were high, they just let it go to get a better story. Not having a clue, Brady unwittingly walked right into their trap. I think the point some members made were they acted like they were concerned about taxpayer money, but in reality, if they as concerned as they profess, they wouldn't have let it go as long as it did. Going for Brady's jugular was more important. As I have said numerous times, from a political standpoint it was a masterful job. Well coordinated and well executed. To compare this incident with the cell bill ambush is a stretch. Granted, the timing of Pat Roberts is political, but Pat does this every election year. He knows bringing up an issue at the podium out of election season, is for the most part useless. He also knows that bringing it up at this time gets attention and results. Regardless of who the politician, Pat makes them pay for their mistakes. |

Re: News Herald ignores the intersection controversy
The engineer was not responsible for putting these two streets on the list to be done. That has to be done by members of council. Near as I can tell, that will fall on at least four councilman. They would have had to have four to pull this off. I expect they'll try to put this on Torck and the engineer tonight, since they're both gone and won't be up there to defend themselves. |

Re: News Herald ignores the intersection controversy
Ms Brady stated in her own words Vaslo asked her how she felt about which roads and she told him they should get the engineers op[nion. No one was told to not vote on it or not to bring it up for bid, I believe. Primo what trap Vaslo, Murphy, DiSanto ,and Higgins never had city cellphones . Kandes turned in his phone in July 2003. Sure she was on a plan by herself ,she was the only councilperson with a city phone, sure she was on a plan by herself. Everyone chose to be reimbursed for minutes on their own phone . When the cost saving committee saw one phone and a big bill ,they made the right decision. Eliminate the phone. |
