First Questions in NH Article re: LP Candidates
I walked into the house about 10 minutes ago and already have had several phone calls about how the candidates answered the first question. Why should voters support you on election day! Ok... so who has the cuttings of this article?

Re: First Questions in NH Article re: LP Candidates
Sorry. I had to toss my scanner away. It was a really old one and no longer worked with my computer when I upgraded my computer. Maybe I'll ask for a scanner for Christmas. Hopefully someone else can scan in the story for you. I read it earlier and don't recall anything out of the ordinary. |

Re: First Questions in NH Article re: LP Candidates
I will do these in the order of the paper. Brady: I lend government a conscience. In the midst of formulating policy and directives, I have always managed to be respectful and receptive to the needs of our families. In the past our residents felt their needs were greeted with indifference and a cold shoulder. I have found that being receptive has added balance to government. Presenting a "you come first" attitude provides for a better working relationship with all members of our community, quite often inspiring action, input and involvement. My responsiveness has produced possitive results and I will continue to provide that same quaility of service. Cotter: Votes should support me on Election Day because my only interest is the welfare of this community where I am a mother, a voter and a taxpaying homeowner. My campaign is entirely financed by my husband and me. The greatest indorsements I seek are those of the Lincoln Park voters who will place their confidence in me to do everything I can for our community and its residents. Lincoln Park has my ear and my heart. Let me be your voice on the council. DiSanto: Voters should continue to support me on Election Day because of my integrity and commitment to the taxpayers of Lincoln Park. Since 2001, I have proven my loyality and support through positive action. I will continue to offer my suggestions, advise and positive action as your elected councilman. Higgins: A good councilperson should be active and not just vote at meetings. Keeping that in mind, I would like people to look at what I did over the past two years: spearheaded reinstitution of a recycling program that brought in thousands of dollars to the city and school groups, started a winter walking program at the high school, got computers at the senior building, got a lot for the high school's construction class to build a house for the city, saved our community center and kept its doors open, and was the driving force behind the Lincoln Park Business Expo. Kandes: During my four years on the council, I learned a wealth of knowledge, which I will apply to future situations. I don't accept campaign contributions so I will always vote in the best interests of the city. I don't have to repay anything with my vote. I will always analyze the situation and make the best decision for the city. I have the desire and the time to serve the city and I will represent the city with professionalism and open mindedness. I have the necessary leadership skills to make the tough decisions, thus helping to guide the city toward success. Lemuel: I have been a Lincoln Park resident since 1995. Over the years I have come to value the city and would like to make a noticable contribution to our families. If elected, I would be capable of correcting the failure of previous administrations. I would like to enhance our services and instill a sense of safety throughout the city. My primary focus would be on your well being and not on any personal platform of my own. Our city should be a place where our children are safe, senior citizens are secure and growing families are prospering. McPartlin: Voters should support me because my previous experience within the city has prepared me well to address their concerns. For more than 30 years, I have worked and volunteered within this city, which has prepared me to approach various issues with an open mind. My work experience includes managing half million dollar budgets, managing employees, creating and implementing programs and, most importantly, serving all areas of the public. I also have extensive knowledge of the Department of Public Services. Most importantly, I am passionate about the city and wish to continue to serve the residents as we move forward. Murphy: I have proven myself to be the leader who cares more about the average person in our community than the things that residents' tax money can buy for the city. Our city needs are great, but I truly believe we should always consider what we are doing to the budget before a decision is made to raise taxes and fees. Fairness to taxpayers means trusting them to help the city in a serious emergency, not shaking people down for every penny we can legally take from them so we can give a pay raise to a city manager. Nelligan: I ran as a write in candidate in the primary election to prove to people that if you register with the city clerk's office, your write in vote will count. I hope this will get more people involved in the election process. Rutherford: As your councilman, I would be as dedicated an individual serving the residents with the same enthusiasim I have exhibited in my capacity as a volunteer. Having served on the Lincoln Park Housing Commission for the last five years, working with a 2.5 million budget, I am sensitive to the needs of a balanced budget and the needs of the people. I will always talk with residents, public safety officers and city workers for their input on city-related matters. Communication is the key for a well run government. Vaslo: If you are looking for a councilman with a proven track record of successfully bringing about the changes needed to secure the financial future of Lincoln Park. than look to Councilman Frank Vaslo. If you are looking for a councilman with a strong record of protecting programs like home rehabilitation loan programs for senior citizens and street repair programs, than look to Councilman Frank Vaslo. If you are looking for a councilman who has made the efficient delivery of municipal services his top priority, you have to look no further than Councilman Frank Vaslo.

Re: First Questions in NH Article re: LP Candidates
I noticed Mr Vaslo wrote his name FOUR TIMES in his answer. He sits in council meetings in his rolled up shirt sleeves and now he is giving his answer by pushing his name over and over and over. He must still be reading his copy of Politics 101. I see that Mr John Nelligan is now officially running. He was a write in candidate on the Primary and because he made the cut, he is an official candidate on the Ballot. There is a picture of Mr Nelligan, but I almost did not recognize him. He was in a shirt and tie. I am used to him in his rumpled t-shirt, uncombed hair, unshavened face and disrespectful attitude.

Re: First Questions in NH Article re: LP Candidates
I looked over the Profiles given prior to the first question. I found them to be more interesting than the question and answers. Both Mr Vaslo and Mr Rutherford say they are "self employed" Sure they are. Mr Nelligan says he is a substitute teacher. That is the same answer he gave in 2001. I thought substituting was a part-time position. They only call you when a teacher calls off. Ms Cotter says she is a "food service assistant". Nuff said. Several of the candidates "attended" college. Only Mr Kandes and Mr Nelligan appeared to have toughed it out and actually graduated. I will not name the candidate, but one claims to have graduated high school. I bet if you checked you would find out he did not. |

I do not have issues with the candidates being honest about their education or job status. They are what they are and at least these people are honest about their achievements (or lack of them). |

Mr Vaslo repeated stated he is proud of being a "stay at home dad" Now that it is election time, he claims to be a "self employed" real estate agent. Perhaps at Meet the Candidate Night someone should ask him how many houses he sold this past year.

I agree Lupin. The candidates should be honest about their achievements. Let's do away with the claims of "attending" college and being self-employed. |

Higgins, Kandes and Vaslo are the only candidates that put some meat into what they said. The rest speak many words, but say nothing. |

Re: First Questions in NH Article re: LP Candidates
Here's a tip to anybody who is currently running or may consider running for office in the future. Keep a journal and in it make sure you keep a record of what you say at meetings and public events. it will keep you from looking silly or as phony as a $3 BILL when re-election time rolls around. Try to be consistent . Don't do a 180 on the voters for a few votes ,it does nothing for your credibility.
