NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH UP & RUNNING!
1st meeting October 24 6:30 at CPW building! BE THERE! GET INVOLVED WITH YOUR COMMUNITY! It's been a while but they've got the officer in charge on hours where he can give the neighborhood watch the jump start that it needs. Let's get the drugs, crime, child abuse and other illegal activity out of here! Let's get 'em locked up! Only the eyes of our neighbors can see what is going on 24 hours a day on our streets! We must join together to make our city a wonderful place to live!

Re: NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH UP & RUNNING!
Due to space these meetings are usually limited to Block Captains and members of CPW. I don't think they would kick out the general public, but they don't want so many that the fire marshall has to close the building either.

Re: NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH UP & RUNNING!
I think that because this is the first meeting in quite a while, they may not be expecting as many people. The officer in charge (can't remember his name right now) told me to tell my neighbors and bring them along. I hope there are a lot of people, it will prove they care. But if you do not have designated block captain, you have to start somewhere. I don't believe my block has one, so I am stepping up to the task. I don't think that every block or area has this program and I hope we can encourage more people to get together and designate a captain and go to these meetings, enforce it and work together to get what is needed to be done ~ done. That would be great! |

Re: NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH UP & RUNNING!
Apparently the Neighborhood Watch signs that you usually see in other neighborhoods with the burgalur guy on them are actually copywrited as sell for about $200 per sign. That will be one of the topics tomorrow at the meeting. Possibly having students to create one, or citizens .... or open to suggestion....? If we make our own it will cost about 80 - 90% less! Chances are if you have never heard of your street having one, you mostly likely don't! I took it upon myself to distribute info to all my neighbors this weekend about the neighborhood watch program, what it is and what the benefits are. If anyone would like a copy of what I created I would be more than happy to send it to you. Send me a private message with your email address and I will send it to you and you can pass it out or just read it for yourself. Basically, I'm a stay at home Mom and have been doing the research regarding the program, so I elected myself the block captain. I feel I can do what is needed to hold that position. So if you don't think you have a block captain or neighborhood watch. Just do it yourself if you can! Nothing will happen unless we make it happen! We can make our city better by everyone helping each other. |

Re: NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH UP & RUNNING!
Anyone attend this meeting? My block captain was unable to go. Did they give the crime stats for the city? They usually hand out a map of the city and indicate what type of crimes are happening in the city and where. Anyone who attended could you post this map or at least provide the information? |

Re: NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH UP & RUNNING!
I went. There was no map. Sorry. It was really about re-aquainting everyone with the program and discussing how to get the program in your area if you don't have one, Angels Night, Halloween and things of that nature. The officer says they are going to try to have these meetings once a month. Also they will be having the kids create street signs for the neighborhood watch to have our own. Best one wins. Nice people, very informational. |

Re: NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH UP & RUNNING!
I also attended the meeting. I thought more people would attend, seeing that over 100 notices went out. However, information was presented and was well received by the people that attended. |

To be part of the national Neighborhood Watch organization, signs must be purchased from a company out of San Diego. I can't believe signs made by residents could look as professional as those made by a company. We don't want homemade signs like some of the ones DiSanto has around town. When my block got their signs years ago, I think each neighbor chipped in $10 and then the CPW put in the rest. EAch block needs two signs - one at each end. |

To clarify things, Neighborhood Watch, Citizens Patrol Watch, DARE, Bike Patrols, etc, all come under the umbrella of Community Policing. |

Re: NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH UP & RUNNING!
I remember when police officers actually walked a beat. I knew these officers by name and they certainly knew who I was. No way would I have done anything wrong with police officers walking the beat. If someone broke a window, the "beat cop" would find out who broke the window. He would be knocking on your front door and telling your parents what you did. The neighbors kept their eyes open and told the "beat cop" what was going on. Community Policing is trying to get back to those days when the community stuck together and worked together. A shame the police has to set up a special program to get the neighbors involved with their neighborhood. We have a neighborhood watch on my street. I know each and everyone of my neighbors. I watch out for them and they watch out for the wife and I. Can you people say the same? |

Re: NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH UP & RUNNING!
I believe that people like to "act" too busy to participate in anything these days. No one has time to get to know their neighbors. Or, is it that they just don't care. I feel that if I spark an interest on my street (I've only been living here since May) that maybe it might make other people curious as to who is living next door. Several of my neighbors do know each other, but just since I've moved in we've had 4 new residents. One of which is causing serious problems. Having a program that is actually written somewhere or gets people to participate could make them feel like we are part of something good. A lot of people have the attitude that what goes on at someone else's house is not their business. I disagree with that and want to let everyone on my block know that what happens at other peoples houses can affect them too! If there are drugs being sold at your neighbors house and their dealer is mad.... you could be out raking your leaves and get shot in a driveby. Or, they could sell drugs to YOUR kid! Of course there are a million other scenarios too. People feel good when they are part of something. As far as the signs go.... There are many very talented artists in this world. I'm sure there are a few in school that will make our sign look great. Timinem... wish I knew who you were at the meeting. Would have loved to meet ya! |
