Economic Eminent Domain?
Should the city use the new powers of eminent domain for economic development to acquire and demolish large areas of abandoned businesses in an attempt to entice developers to invest in Lincoln Park? What areas would be suitable for a large scale business development such as a mall or home improvement complex? How would you feel as a property owner living next to a megaplex of this nature? |

Re: Economic Eminent Domain?
Remember that the previous DDA developer Jeffrey Surnow wanted the city to go to condemnation for that project? The reason that Mayor Sochocki and Council did not go to condemnation at the time, 1999 or 2000, was that a well-known condemnation attorney, Jerome Pescick told them that they would loose if they went to condemnation. |

Re: Economic Eminent Domain?
Perhaps they can make Consulates out of the DDA area buildings. According to the Detroit News article, that is a great way to get tax credits. There are plenty of countries that would want a Consulate opened in this area. According to the article it only costs $1.00 per country. By the way. How is the Consulate of Slovakia doing at Mr Zelenak's office? |

An area that could sustain a big business, Hall Transportation. What is this place doing besides sitting there?

There was also talk when Mark Lloyd, McKenna, was running our DDA that a outlet mall developer was interested in the Hall Transportation buildings. However, Mark left and we heard nothing. |

And, if you recall, that's also why the city and DDA got socked with a lawsuit by Mr. Surnow. And Mr. Surnow won. |

The city should use the new powers of eminent domain to acquire back the remaining under developed Arlington condo project. Bring in a new Architect to design phase II & III of the project that would be compatible with near by businesses and bring in the young hipster population. |

The rumor is that Mr. Surnow won the lawsuit because a lot of promises were mad to him that our city could not hold up to. |

Re: Economic Eminent Domain?
The Surnows won the lawsuit because the L. PK. city leader had a shopping center developer come up with development plans with no input from its citizens and when the plans became public the citizens expressed their dissatisfaction with just another large box grocery store. With one of the Surnows brothers being a lawyer, L. PK. had no choice but to pay the Surnows . |

True . . . I recall at the public meetings Mr. Surnow showing the site plan but with only 1 business labeled "grocery store" and when the DDA asked if he had any retailers for those locations he said no. You know there is that large real estate convention in Vegas every year where all the retailers, developers and restaurant companies at at. I have always thought it wise for our city to send someone to go and find companies interested in investing in Lincoln Park. |
