Vote NO on Proposal R !
They named this proposal "R" as in "Roads," They should have named it "P" as in "PERMANENT"! Or "F" for "FOREVER TAX"! Or even "S" as in "SSSSSLLLLUUUUURRRRRPPPP"! How about "I" for "we think you voters are IDIOTS and will actually believe there can be no time limit on a millage." With no time limit, the tax WILL BE PERMANENT, reviews or no reviews. No future Mayor/Council will ever eliminate this tax! This tax WILL NEVER GO AWAY and will probably be diverted eventually for some emergency or other. And our roads will look the same as they do now! A "yes" vote means the Mayor/Council will not be held accountable ever again for road repairs and you and your children, and your children's children will be paying for it! VOTE NO ON R !

Re: Vote NO on Proposal R !
All we hear for two years is how our tax dollars end up in the pockets of employees and that we owe it to them. we were paying 70% of it for them. We are told how they shift money from one account to another. and they want a forever tax. NO NO NO my house. For those of you who graduated frpm LP schools in the last 10 years that's 3 no votes. add the 5 from my neighbors that's 8

Re: Vote NO on Proposal R !
As said by another member is a different thread. The only one who should be "reviewing" a millage is the Voter. Not 7 elected officials. It is the duty of the Voter to review the need for the tax and approve the tax. Not 7 high and mighty elected officials. They report to us. We do not report to them.

I also will be voting no. But in response with what you said, i read the story that the resident brought forward. It said that Allen Park's ballot language was being sent to their attorney for review. The five-year clause they mentioned was the opinion of their mayor and council. It'll be interesting to see once theirs comes back from their attorney to see if he, too, concludes that such a limit is not allowed anymore. |

Re: Vote NO on Proposal R !
Brown did say they had the same bond counsel as LP. He would have had to review it before the AP mayor and council voted on it. There must be something different about AP's & LP's wording. If there isn't, someone was trying to pull a fast one on the voters. |

According to the story I read, the Allen Park mayor and council simply approved sending the matter to their attorney to draft the ballot language. |

According to Councilman Murphy Monday nite, Allen Park gov't decided to not put it on their ballot yet until they can get a clear understanding of the new/revised MCLA. Difference is that our City Leaders put it on the ballot without regard to the taxpayers. Allen Park had more respect for their citizens to do that.

Re: Vote NO on Proposal R !
I thought they put it on the ballot because one of the best bond attorney firms in the country recommended that the M&CC proceed in such a fashion. Look, I'm just a simple girl and my dad always told me to stick to what you know, not what you think you know. |

Re: Vote NO on Proposal R !
I think Brown and the council figured it would not matter to the voter if there was no sunset provision on the proposal. Big Mistake. It will fail because of the lack of a sunset provision. As has been said on these forums before, the council is out of touch with the voters of LP. They tried to eliminate the "elected" position of Treasurer. The proposition was soundly defeated. The LP Taxpayers will end up paying for another election come March to pass a millage proposal and that will have some type of wording that will end the millage after a certain length of time.

If it went to our City Attorney, that would be Mr. Tamsen. Since he is also the attorney for your DDA, someone should simply ask him.

Think they said it went to the Bond Attorney. Wouldn't this be different than the DDA Attorney? |

Re: Vote NO on Proposal R !
I'm definately voting NO. I will not give council even more money to spend willy nilly like this Cloverlawn & Capital mess up.

Re: Vote NO on Proposal R !
Mayday - I hear ya! Even if citizens are not aware of this Cloverlawn/Cleveland issue, because of the open-ended expiration date (no sunset clause), I feel it will go down 2-1. Unfortunately, we will have to pay for a special election early next year--where an expiration date is added to the millage. I don't believe we should give a blank check to our government--not at any level. (It's hese blank checks that end up causing absolute misery to those affected by it--either paying the bill or receiving the service?. |
