Michigan Soldier Killed In Iraq Explosion
DEFORD, Mich. -- A native of Michigan's Thumb area has been killed in Iraq. Sgt. 1st Class Casey E. Howe, 32, was part of a convoy headed to join an Iraqi contingent when his patrol hit a land mine on Monday near Baghdad. Howe grew up in Deford and joined the Army after graduating from Cass City High School in 1991. Howe is survived by his wife, four children and parents, all from Smiths Creek, Mich., located near Port Huron, Mich. Howe is the 60th member of the U.S. armed forces with known Michigan ties to die in Iraq. Another soldier died in the same explosion, and a third was seriously injured. http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/5034603/detail.html |
