Gas Station Moratorium to be lifted
Originally posted by DonDiego on 07.09.04 On Monday, July 12, the council will be voting on lifting the Moratorium on Service Stations. At this time I do not know where this is being considered. Very possibly it could once again be the Johnny's Nursery property on the southeast corner of Dix and Outer Drive. Council hinted the last couple of weeks about a BIG announcement coming involving this property.

Is the old lift expiring or something? Didn't they lift it last time so the interested parties could get started? Maybe something has become concrete. |

Last night when the resolution was read. Murphy said nothing other than to vote no. Some were saying how great it the gas station will be. Maybe there will be a restaurant attached. Like A&W inside the Amoco at Dix & Moran. There was a small discussion about a house on the property. |

Construction - Gas Station
Bacall Development is building a gas station on the old Johnny's Nursery storage site. 811 Dix. Prior to be used for storage, the site was a Boron Gas Station and way way back was Daly Drive-In Restaurant. Here is how the property looks at the present time. No construction has begun. We will keep a documented record of their progress. |

Good, gas station, we can trade in the blight of the political signs for cigarette signs.

True, but I don't know what's worse, the political signs or the cig signs. Have you been past the FireBird station down by the community center, they must have 15-20 cigarette signs out there. I think Melvindale did something about this, you don't see any cig signs anywhere, atleast I haven't. |

This property may only be good to develop as a gas station, but LP already has too many self-service stations. Duchane, M/C, and others should court other kinds of businesses: larger stores (like Meijers), home improvement businesses, affordable sit-down family-type restaurants (we have too many fast food restaurants), and others. Hopefully, the appearance of this station will help to improve the look of LP. Even when Johnny's used it, it could have used a "little TLC" for several years. The appearance is just terrible. (What a view to those entering into LP.) As stated before, at least it's a business that will have to pay taxes. We need more businesses--includng the small, single businesses--to establish permanent locations in LP. |

So it used to be a Boron station. I barely remember that name. I always thought that it used to be a Sinclair station there. I remember my Dad filling up and we would get a green dinasoar soap, but that must of been another corner somewhere around here. If the station and strip mall are bricked it will look good. Too Bad Atlantis will still be there or that area could grow with the new building being built. |

True as stated: Atlantas being located there will keep the area from growing from its current blight to a booming area for LP. Too bad we can't get rid of the Atlantas. |

hi, i remember there being too many gas stations in lp. i do, however see a need for one at that end of town. why send those fine folks to melvindale for gas. i saw the plans and these will be fine buildings. a few small business types. what i dont want to see is big box stores who come and go and leave big vacent building in down time. long live the small buisness man, or woman, struggling to feed their family. , bicycle don |

A gas station in this end of town in indeed needed. This will allow LP'ers to support a LP business, instead of going to Melvindale and/or Detroit. With this need, the gas station should be able to survive--meaning that there will be taxes coming into LP's coffers. But, too bad we can't get rid of the Atlantas--or at least get this business to clean up like the Park Theater! |

hi, here is a thought. you put a bushel of apples out there for people to chose from. in the bushel there is one rotten apple. every one put the rotten one aside and in time it just goes away. if we are luckey the bad apple will just fold up beause of lack of intrest. the more positive traffic righrt arround it, the more the fence walkers will stay away, , bicycle don |
